Have a stainless K-frame .357 (don't have it here at the house and hate to say I don't remember the model number 635-3maybe?) and noticed the hammer nose spring is gone (broke in two and fell out?). Have another spring, but am not sure about the "rivet" that holds the nose in the hammer. It is a "rivet" isn't it? What is involved in getting that thing out of there, and installing a new one? Does it require a specialized tool to install the new rivet? Seems to fire alright without the little spring, but am certain S&W put it in there for a reason. Thanks for any help you can give me.
None of my K-frame guns have sprung hammer noses, only my N-frames. I think maybe your gun isn't supposed to have one, if it is, indeed, a K. Anyhow, yes, it is a rivet, not a roll pin, but I'm thinking you don't have to worry.
My 686-1M had a spring for the hammer nose, and when the nose broke and I replaced it, the spring disappeared...but it's fired just fine without the spring.
