Adjustable trigger stop on 586 8" barrel?
I just noticed that my 586 no dash 8 3/8" has an adjustable trigger stop. I thought the 6" barrel only came with them?

It did not find anything in the book about it so that is why I'm asking.

Possibly an add on sometime later, or with S&W you never know, stranger things have happened. More knowledgable guys will be along soon.

S&W did not engineer the L frames to use the adjustable trigger stops that earlier N and K frames had. If you have an N or K frame gun that does have one, compare the frame areas behind the triggers. You will see that there is no recess machined for the stop on the L frame guns.

So what is this tab behind the trigger? It is not on my 629. The S&W book says they came with the 6" barrel.

That "tab" is the trigger stop, so you do have one. Perhaps all L frames were machined for the stop, which would make sense, for machining purposes, but the stops were supposed to be installed in the 6 inch model only, and yours happened to get one.
My 6 inch 586 has the slot for the stop, but one is not installed. I would like to get the stop and screw for mine. The K frame trigger stop screw is too small for the L frame.

Warning - FOOT IN MOUTH ALERT!
I guess they did make space. I had never seen one with the stop installed, though.

Are these common? At one time I remember reading that if it came with a target hammer and target trigger it gets the stop. I cannot remember where I read that. Anyone ever heard of this?

Common?
I don't know James, but I posted this 66-1 on the forum a few months ago with TH, TT and trigger stop. Some said it wasn't available with an early 66 and especially a snub, then someone posted other early 66's with the same configuration. A factory letter would tell you how it was "equipped" but that cost $50, perhaps too much just to find that out.
You need to look hard to see it in this pic.

Yeah I would not spend the $50 on a common revolver unless it was some kind of odd ball or rarity. I know the book is not 100% fact but I thought I would ask to see if this is some odd ball.
