686 No Dash
I just wanted to share my latest acquisition with the members. I traded a Marlin 444 for it and feel that we both got a very good deal.

I am drooling. The Marlin is a nice rifle, but the 686 is going to give you a lot more recreation and fun. Hope you're gonna be shooting it soon!

I hope so too. Maybe tomorrow. I thought that I'd get to it yesterday and then today but priorities got in the way.

It appears to have the "M" stamp which means it's been recalled so you don't have to decide what to do about that. At least it looks like the attempted stamp above the model number. They don't generally put a lot of effort in stamping the "M".
The last 444 Marlin I had in my hands I bought for $350 and that was about 2 months ago at a gun show. I am a dealer and I bought it off a passer-by. So....I think you have around $350 in a gun that normally sells in the $550 range in my neck of the woods. I think you made a very good deal. The 444 is a rather odd caliber where I live and not everybody is knocking down doors to get one.

As long as both parties walk away from the trade feeling good about it, that's all that counts.

...box too. Nice! Congrats.
I just bought this one on Monday for $340.
No box or papers, but a fraction of what they are selling for locally.

I think they usually call that an M over-stamp. That one looks like an under-stamp. Regardless, the decision has been made. Enjoy!!

Nice! I picked one up not too long ago. No box or papers for $300.00. Sorry I can't post pics at this time.

$340.....$300.....you guys should be ashamed. The 686 prices have moderated over the past year-or-so, but you people are stealing these things. The $500-$525 prices are still holding-up around my neck-of-the-woods. Especially in the 4-inch models.

Great price, and good looking grips to boot! Anyway, the box won't make it shoot any better! Enjoy it! Bob

I just picked up a 686 no dash 4" at the gunshow today. Very nice condition with factory grips for $525. It does not have the M stamp. How critical is it to have the mod done?

If your gun cycles & fires with no problems with whatever ammo you feed it, don't worry about it.

Nice trade.
i was working on a 686 no dash as well. Had S&W do the mod, it would still hang up on the firing pin bushing. I guess it needs more looking into. It would do this with any and all ammo. I still want it.
