Hi all I am new to the forum and just picked up a S&W 386 XL Hunter. 30 oz and extremely light! Feels good in the hand. My gun dealer said they are rare guns? I haven't shot it yet and will make it to the range next week. Any words of wisdom in regards to loads or shooting the gun for the first time? Current 386 owners please weigh in your thoughts. I searched the forum and didn't get any hits? Any advice is helpful. Recomendations for cleaning and care for the gun? I was told the paint will scratch off. I am a longtime hunter and hangun owner but this is my first Scandium Frame. I plan on hunting Whitetail Deer with it. Reason for my primary purchase. I am coming from a Ruger 9.5" Super Redhawk 44 Mag. I originally wanted to purchase the 44 Mag version but S&W said it won't be produced? Huh? Thanks guys!

The 386XL is a current production firearm.

We do not yet know how rare it will be.

I have a dozen Scandium revolvers going back as many years. Mine are mostly N-frame or J-frame.

The finish is not as fragile as you have been lead to believe.
