Default When did S&W begin shipping with padlocks?

I recently sold a Model 617-2 on Gunbroker. I have the box and all paperwork, but in question is whether there was a gun lock of some sort in the original equipment. The owner's manual is dated from 1996. It makes no mention of a lock anywhere.
What do you think?
Thanks!

My 686-4 was bought in late ‘95 here in Kiwiland so it probably shipped from the US in ‘94. There was no lock supplied unlike my two latest pistols purchased.

Well, Duh! I just answered my own question.
There is a label on the box indicating that it contains a Master trigger lock.
