Performance Center 627 (357x8) price check

What is the going rate for a PC 627 8 shot, pre-lock, 6" barrel, Hogue conversion grips. Was told that the 6" is "rare"...true??

Looks just like this one except for grips and barrel length....

Does it have unfluted cylinder? There's a 627-3 Hunter in 6 inch.

Also a 6.5 inch Lew Horton with interchangable front sights.

It's that 6.5 inch LH I was referring to. Performance Center made for LH 1998. Should be a -2. Nice one.

the Model # on the label is "6271"...-1?. And I had previously assumed that it's a round butt with conversion grips, but the label shows otherwise.

Hmmm, the product code is for the LH, maybe the dash# is a misprint in the book or a misstamp at the factory? Does the hammer have the firing pin? A -2 would not, a -1 would.

I have never seen or heard of that particular model either, but will venture a guess based on the more common 627 with a 5" barrel. I seem to recall seeing one of the early no lock versions, of the 5" model, just like the one in your picture, selling for about $1000 a little ways back. So since the gun you are looking at is a no lock version, with a special barrel length, and the correct box to support it's authenticity. Not to mention it's being rare enough that some of the more knowledgeable forum members (I'm obviously not one of those people) don't seem to know much about this model. I would expect the asking price to be in the $1200 to $1400 range. So that's my guess. Now I'm curious as to what the other estimates will be.

jughed, did you see the marking on the inside of the crane, was it marked -1 ? The label itself could be mismarked.

Thanks for your reply. The gun was being offered at an auction. I wanted it, but didn't want to get taken because of overly eager bidders that tend to show up at auctions. After my initial price check post i had time to do research via the smart phone before it was up for bid...after reading that only 200 were made, and knowing what the more common 5" were getting, i made the same estimated value guess that you have.
I ended up being top bidder...can't get it home until Thursday at the earliest. But i was able to take the box with me.

funny you should ask...i didn't pay enough attention to that when inspecting it, but i did notice the serial # was laser etched under the top strap.

I have only seen a few 6.5-inch 627s, less than a half dozen. It is a Model 627-PC, meaning built on the older forged frame and not the new CNC frame that are marked with -3, BTW, in my experience all -2 guns are non-Performance Center six shot). The 627-PC can be quickly identified be the flat hammer nose not fully hidden by the frame. Interesting box shown on the auction site because it is a S&W factory blue plastic case and a PC case. The correct box for this model would be the ribbed aluminum PC logo case. The marking "6271" is also very interesting as as I have never encountered that marking before. 627-1s predate performance center models are quite rare and look just like the Model of 1989 (hammer mounted firing pin on the full lug frame). Maybe this gun went back to the factory and re-released in the blue case and given the 6271 number? The price estimates are accurate. Thanks for sharing. I would love the full serial number for my records if you are so willing (perhaps by PM).

There is a previous topic about the 6 1/2" 627 PC. It is mentioned that the plastic boxes came before the aluminum cases.

Happy to help, this is a subject of which I have enough experience to share on the likes of this Forum.Yes, the earliest 627s came in plastic cases, first were black (1997) then blue, the black Doskocil cases had a gold Performance Center gold foil label on them and the subsequent blue cases had the PC logo relief molded into them. Mine 6.5-inch was one of the first 50 and it came in the aluminum case. Stranger things have been documented on this Forum. Congratulations on a great acquisition.

Oh, man. You just got a really, really nice piece. There are very few made. Someone saw one, and maybe bought it, a couple of years back that was documented here on the forum. I've got one in 5 inch and would like one in a 6 or 6 1/2 inch, too.
The gentleman who sold me the 5 inch sent along a magazine article that featured Jerry Michulek shooting the 6 or 6 1/2 gun in Icore. I looked for it for a few minutes, but it looks like it will take an extended search to find it. If you are interested, let me know and I will search for it.

shooting report coming, but don't expect only one hole on the target (i may embarrass myself if i post pics).

Picked it up today. Nevermind the "SB" on the label..it is a round butt. It's in great shape, and no complaints other than the serial number on the butt having been marred some by the grip screw.
