Question 1985 NIB Model 649 No Dash-What's it worth? *pics added

Hoping you guys can help me out here.
A good friend of mine has a 1985 NIB Model 649 no dash he's thinking about selling. He asked me what I thought it was worth. He bought it many years ago and stuck it in his safe. It is unfired with original box. Looks like it came out of a time machine. I'd like to be able to give him an educated answer. I might be able to get some pics of it tomorrow if that would help. What is the current market value for this model?

I would say the $600 range. I picked up a 649-2 from a member of this forum for $550 a while back, and it was LNIB with original box and papers. Great revolver! It shoots beautifully and I'm glad I grabbed it. The gun has become one of my favorites!

We are all seeking good deals on guns. But, sometimes, an opportunity to pick up a fine firearm that is no longer made is worth a little extra cheese.

If you bought a new 649 you might have $600 or more in it by the time you got out the door. I would think a classic no-lock specimen NIB would be worth a 20 percent premium to fanciers and collectors. I say $700-750 is a reasonable price.

Hmmm. A pre-lock stainless 38 Special J frame with box. Anywhere from $450 on up, depending on regional price differences and the local economy.
Those hump backed models can be hard to find homes for, however. I have one I bought used in 1998 without the box and would love to find another. Others find them unattractive. But as someone said, "pretty is as pretty does". They are great for pocket carry.

Kalash Did you approximate the guns DOB by serial or are you going by the original sales receipt?
Im just curiose because the 649 was inroduced in 1985 .
Do you happen to know the serial number 3 letter prefix?

It's AFN. I'm going to take some pics of it later this afternoon and post them here.

ETA - That's a piece of lint or a hair on the cylinder in the 6th pic, not a scratch.

Sweet 649, Your serial AFN prefix might even be late 1984 according to the SCSW , If so it may be one of the first ones made as the 649 was supposedly introduced in 1985,

This is 1 of 100 comemorating their introduction but is prefix AHT dating to July 85, the serial does end in the number 1 but ,
Im not sure if the 649 series was made with consecutive serial numbers or just as they reached that work station .

Edited to add, Note the differences in the spacing of "Made In USA" on our two guns ,
Looks like there are some other slight differences in the address rollstamp as well.

Default M649

A clean M649 sold a couple of days ago on Gunbroker for $360. There are about twenty on GB now, none with no reserve, have bids. The M649's that sell are those that start at $200.00 or less. M649's are my favorite

cj.....don't take me wrong and it is obvious you know your way around the 649, but I have not found any on GB selling for anywhere close to $350. Wish I had caught that one that sold for $360 you mention. I did buy one for less than $400, but I could not find that twenty on there you mentioned. As of this moment...there may be 3-or-4 listed with pretty chunky asking prices.
