Default What would E. Keith have said about 329 PD ?

I was carrying my 329 the other day while fishing and got to thinking what old Elmer would have said about it and if he would have had one and carried it ??

I don't think that Elmer would have appreciated a "Pot Metal" revolver....

"Adequate for jackrabbits with 22 gr of 2400 and the 429421 hard-cast..."

Actually, he used a 4" model 29 often and must have been pretty recoil-tolerant, so I'd guess he would have liked it.

Elmer's hands were badly burnt in a house fire when he was a small boy. All that scar tissue may have helped make him more recoil tolerant.

He wouldn't like the pot metal, ugly hole, or the crooked barrel IMO.

Where's the steel? Does this shoot caps?

Don't get me wrong, If you can carry the 329 to the range and run even say, half a box of full house .44's through it, you get my respect.

IIRC, it was a hotel fire, where the owner set it on fire! "Hell, I Was There" goes into great detail on it. Elmer even warned his dad about staying there. To where his dad gives him booze to kill the pain when cut his fingers free and then fixed his hand! I was glad he passed out. As a boy, he went thru hell! That book tells you how life was back then! Highly recommended!

or..
"Ouch! Where are the .44 Russians??"

He'd likely be impressed with it's lite weight.

I would expect such an avid handgun enthusiast would see past their shortcomings and appreciate the newer S&W designs, especially the Sc Airweight Magnums,
Granted he may not have understood how society would become so latigous it would result in adding useless safety features and rollstamp warnings to his beloved sidearm ,
Perhaps locking a handgun not under ones direct control and reading an operating manual prior to use back in his time may have seen... well....kinda obviouse.

Whether he would have liked the current products fit and finnish is debatable ,
Ultimately he liked guns and the new designs are more advanced than the products offered 60 years ago,

Notice I didnt say better as in many ways they are not as good but they are definately more advanced .

As 329PD owner, I think he would have liked it's niche: an easy to carry revolver that could do what needed to be done when needed. Just like the rest of us, I doubt he would have seen it as a 1000 round day-at-the-range gun, although I bet dollars to donuts that his tolerance for the recoil would put most of us to shame!

RIB Elmer.

Elmer and Chuck Norris would have a 5 shot cylinder chambered for the 500 in their 329.

I don't believe Elmer would be happy with todays S&Ws, don't believe he would owned one. Not sure though, "Hell, I wasn't there".

Well "I was'nt there either". But from reading about the man i
believe he might have carried one in his pants pocket.
To use as a small hammer for when he had to pound the ejector
rod on his pre-29's for stuck cases on his hot loads.

He would have said 'Now that's what I'm talking about, the perfect pocket gun.'. Though he would most likely change the grips and sights to his pleasing. Then he would spend years trying to hot rod the 500 and get smith to make a scandium/titanium one just for him.....
