Default Price of model 15

A friend has a very clean 4" model 15, I cant remember the dash, but he asked me if I wanted it.

What would be a good deal?

Thanks

A good deal? $200. A great deal? Free. A realistic deal? $400 if it's clean and straight. Solid gun and not getting any cheaper in nice condition. Box and papers add $50 +/- ... Anything out the door and home south of $450 is a bargain in your favor, based on what I've seen in the North East.

I had this one listed on here for a week or better at $425.00 shipped and got zero interest. My experience on here is they are worth more when you are asking what they are worth than when you list them for sale.

I recently purchased a like new Model 15 with the box, etc for $425 but he threw in a nice pair of combat grips that I sold so I have $325 in the gun.

FTF a good one will go $400 with the box and everything and you are OK. Times are hard and people aren't buying a lot of toys lately it seems. Stuff isn't bringing what it did.

This is the gun I'm talking about.

Conndition and originality are everything in a collectable old revolver,
just saying a model 15 is really not enough info to gauge value.
If its a clean shooter roughly $300 + or - but a NIB 15-1 or pre 15 might bring 3x that.

Briefly the 15-1 is probably the rarest but the 15-2 and older versions with original diamond Magnas bring a premium especially the 4 and 5 screw varients,

Dash 3 and 4 were the last pinned barrel versions,

Late dash 4's stopped getting the barrel pin and were the last of the tapered barrel 15's.

The model 15-5 and 15-6 had a heavy barrel like the 4" 14-3.

Mine was the last of the cop gun closeouts at Summit Gunbroker.
Unpinned -4.
Was $200 as the thumbpiece was missing.
A new thumbpiece and wood stocks and its pretty presentable and an excelelnt shooter:

A super clean pre lock/mim model 15 with rubber grips for 320.00 is almost like getting it for free here in SF Bay Area.

Earlier this year I found a very nice 15-3 at the LGS for $325 plus tax. I traded a Glock G-22RTF and $80 for the 15-3 and a RIA 1911 which he had priced at $280 plus tax. If he hadn't been willing to do anything on a trade, I would have had to go ahead and just buy the 15-3 as it was the first decent one I'd seen in quite some time, especially for that price. It has very slight discoloration of the bluing on the barrel where it sat in someone's nightstand.

That's a fair deal for both of you. You did well and it is as good a 38 Special as was ever made. As a shooter, the goodyears will serve you well.

While we are on the subject, a friend has a pristine 2" M-15 (70s vintage) with original grips, WO/RR and Target trigger and hammer. No box. I have heard that the 2" versions are bringing a bit of a premium? What would be a fair price on that?

Yes, the 2 inch model does bring more. For me, if I could have for anything 500.00 or less total, I would be happy.
