Default M986 Performance Center in 38 Super?

Simple question. Do you think a M986 Performance center revolver in 9mm can be recut and work with 38 super? I could try to find a 627 in Super or go this route. Any thoughts on this?

There was a factory 686 chambered in .38 Super. I believe that 300 were made for Bangers.

Maybe better to bore to 9x21 or 9x23 although the stock 9 mm should be adequate for any gun game and load faster wit it's shorter case.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

There was a second run of Supers about 4 years ago as well.

Absolutely it can be done

My 627 has a 357 Magnum cylinder rechambered for for 9x23 Winchester. The original stainless cylinder was left alone making my 627 a convertible

Since autoloading cartridges fired in revolvers headspace on the moon clips instead of the case mouth like they would in an autoloader, this firearm can safely chamber and fire 9x23 Winchester, 38Super, 38 ACP, 356TSW, 9x21, 9x19 (9MM Luger), 9x17 (380ACP) and others that do not come to mind at the moment.

Colt SSA,

How does the 38 super and others shoot out of a bore setup for 357? Isn't the 357 a .357 bullet and the 38 super, 9mm etc a .355 bullet?

It shoots perfectly fine.

There is much misconception and even myth about projectiles and bores and accuracy.

To start, a 38Super uses .356 projectiles per SAAMI specification, not .355 like the 9MM. But folks have no problem shooting .355 in a gun set up for .356. They do not even bother asking if it would work.

For a projectile to be accurate it must spin, the rifling does that as it engages the projectile.

While a 357 Magnum revolver typically has a .357 lands, the grooves are typically .346, so there is still plenty of projectile to dig into and get the thing spinning even with a .355 9MM projectile

I would be very leery about cutting into that titanium cylinder.
Read many horror stories of them being ruined even by improper cleaning.
Is there even a stainless 7 shot 9mm cylinder that could be modified?
