Me to GunShow Dealer: What Model is that S&W"? (I knew it was a17-6) Ah, I don't kown
we just got it in on consignment from a lady who's husband just died. He looked at the price tag: only had $500 on it- no maker or model but he said "It's a S&W".Me: DAHhh to myself. They took the strap of and said it was a 17-6, which of course I knew all along. I looked at it, near 98%, 2 small dings on top of barrel rib. No vibration marks on shield, no ticks on trigger guard.
>>>>ANYONE KNOW HOW MANY WERE MADE ? I had a 2 FOUR inchers on order from a distributor in AL. ~10 years ago but they only made 110 and of course SMITHNUT got his order in 3 days before mine.... <<<<<
Perhapes the buy of the show. I didn't haggle on price due to the gun owners postion losing her husband and all. A Blessing, indeed !
--Sorry about poor pixs, I'm cooking dinner--VERY deep blue of an early '90s gun.

Nice buy Dewey. I'm sure the widow got her full share , but nothing to do at that point but get the best deal you can. I've never seen a 17-6 - good looking gun.
I was set up at same show. Bought the mod 58 Tom B. was asking about here, and a 1949-50 K22 in the box. Nice looking gun all original, box and grips numbered to the gun. 98 to 99%. ratty box. Serial # has bunch of zero's K76000.
Met Boykinlp and Tom Beckwith today. Great putting faces with names. I was telling this guy about someone who posted a holster on the forum, and he said, yep - that was me (Boykinlp).

Hey Dan! I got one a them too...
I have a 4", but it's a -5 full underlug which is pretty unusual too.
Nice job paying the widow woman what she was asking... that was a fair price for you both. I know jackwagons that would have tried to take advantage of her lack of info and sliver the price just to pat themselves on the back later and brag to their friends... I've known you as long as anyone here and you have always been an honorable fellow....
Well Done Brother...

Handled one at a local gun show wearing Goodyears at $600+ with wear and handling marks, but put it back down due mainly to lack of affordable cash to throw at it. I think most of them should have smooth combat fingergroove grips. I know they changed to Goodyears on the 14-7 full lug, but can't say about the 17 full lugs. Just don't know.
I think the low production count would possibly be the 17-6 without the full lug. Think I remember several showing theirs here awhile back.
Surely there were more 4 inchers made later?

I just posted in your other thread. These aren't particularly rare but they are great shooters and prices are going up as more and more people discover them.
Your gun would have probably come from the factory with Combat Stocks such as these pictured below. Top to bottom; 17-6, 16-4 and 14-5......same gun in .22, .32 and .38.

There's a time to haggle and a time to pay just the asking price if its priced right. Of course she probably had the guns appraised at the LGS anyway. I would of just paid the price too. It shows you have a heart and down the road good deals will come your way to reward you for this deal.

BBill
It says that God made everything and I believe that we're all in this together and have what we need...just pass it around. I'm no hero for sure.
I imagine she gave it to them and asked what she could get for it. AS THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT WAS, they said prolly 500 and she said OK. They go for 650 to 750....I'm Blessed.

I'm glad you got that one Dan.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Nice catch!
