Default Model 686 with Silhouette front sight

I am looking at two 686 6" with Silhouette front sight. One is 1980 no dash with non-fluted cylinder. The other is 1985-86 dash 2 with fluted cylinder. Both are mint. No box or papers. Any idea of fair value and rarity? Thanks

They are certainly rarer then the standard model with the regular sight package. I had a 586 with 8 3/8 inch barrel with the Silhouette sight package and sold it and I wish I hadn't. Not sure of the value of these revolvers because to the right buyer they are worth a lot. The buyers tend to be hunters that can set 3 different zero points with the sights or competition shooters.

Mint shape I would guess $600 to $650

What about metallic silhouette competitions? .357 may be just enough for knocking down rams and pigs.

I have a 586-1 with the adjustable front sight. Love that gun.

Well I ended buying the 686-2 since the no dash sold before I made a call. The no dash was $100 more anyway. Now I wait for paperwork and delivery.

Default Advertise a little

I have one these also, and recommend looking around for a club involved in steel silhouette shooting.
It would also sell in states that allow pistols for hunting of course-
Fanstastic pistol-

The closes I get to hunt with a pistol is my Rossi Ranch Hand in .357 Magnum 12" barrel, for some reason its treated as a rifle ; ) I have a hip holster for it to boot.

I haven't used a .357 with the 4 position front sight ,but I have the 29-3 with it, and it is quite adaptable to various used. You can adjust the sight for up to 4 different distances, and dial in which one to fit the job to be done. Takes a little time to sight in for all of them, so you want to figure out in advance your uses. Set the rear sight at mid-range for elevation, then adjust the front starting at the closest distance at position 1. Go up from there.
