Default Rosewood burl hideout grips more franzite..What people want in custom revolver grips

Most of the new and some of the older grips in these pics are listed fore sale in the "accessories for sale " section of the forum here
http://smith-wessonforum.com/accesso...#post136871717

#1 Black Walnut Feathered crotch ( same figure AAA shotgun stocks have)
Hideout style grips K, L frame Roundbutt

#2 French walnut curly and marbled
Hideout style K or L frame Round Butt ...

#4 Walnut crotch Franzite style
N-frame square butt

#5 Rosewood Burl without speed loader relief
Hideout style K or L frame Round butt...

Franzite clone k sq butt East Indian Rosewood

2nd set full length target

3rd set 3/8" shorter extension than first.

Jframe pac clone

J frame Com•Pro Clark walnut burl and crotch

Set 1

Set 2

ComPro in marbled Enlish Walnut

Franzite clone. I bought the originals off ebay in search of a thin styled grips that suited me. First off i noticed poor fillout in the molded plastic, sharp edges, and lack of quality control we have become accustomed to in this "Day and Age". But what I saw was a diamond in the rough. The original design was excellent, with my eyes closed I held the model 24 outstretched to simulate firing the action. First I noticed the grips afforded a high hand hold that i was not used to but the lack of palmswell compliments this style very well. I am guessing that these were designed with bullseye shooting in mind. Being a grip maker, stocksmith, or whatever you call it, I felt I had to do this design justice. Here are the pictures-

Bocote skullcrakr j frame

Closed back j frame pac clone

Jframe skullcrakr crotch walnut

FINISHED a set Of THE COMPACT PRO .

NEW frame size for SKULLCRAKR. I adapted design to K-frame

I am back to making grips, and what i want to know is ... what do you want? ven if its combining aspects of different types of grips. Also frame size, style, kind of wood, etc. Does anybody have a set of sythetic/ plastic grips that they want done in nice wood?

Lately i have been working on this roundbutt design
J frame

N-Frame

Yes Sir....I DO have an idea I'd like to see done. My Favorite grip of all time is the Pachmayr ComPac Presentation Pro for RB S&W K Frames. There are about a million of those guns out there so there's a market. What I'd like is Fancy Wood versions of that Grip. Smooth, Checkered, doesn't matter....Don't lengthen them, widen them, or anything else.....That's what I'd like.....

I want a grip for the K and N frames similar to ones made by Deacon Deason of Bear Hug grips. They would be fully inletted on the inside but left semi-finished on the outside to allow for custom smoothing and shaping as well as staining and finishing. Could be offered in several different woods including walnut running fron grade A regular to grade AAA+ fancy. Having to be finished on the outside could bring the price down to a reasonable level.

Hey.. I have just edited my post to include pics of what i have been working on lately. I think we are on the same page... these are modeled after those.. I have done N frame and j-frame...but with all those nice 66"s and 19 RB's out there, it looks like maybe i should do K-frame.

I want N frame square butt targets made of hard maple and cherry laminated and edge glued. I used to make custom countertops from hard maple and red oak edge glued and then planed.

In fact the style I have in mind is made be Kim Ahrends but I don't like how much wood hangs below the grip frame for his retro target grip.

RAIDER... That could be done...I am mostly stocked in those grades of walnut. What would you pay for Average grade curly walnut roughed out and sanded with 80 grit?

I haven't been able to find good looking square butt j frame grips. Plenty of round butt. Do you have pics and prices of grips round or square butt, that are ready to go. We can start your funding for your new stuff. I like exotic woods with lots of grain. The grips that are pictured are great looking.

I need boot grips for a Ruger Alaskan. They need to be as short as possible while supporting all fingers. No finger grooves. Relieved for speedloaders. They should also be rounded on the back like Jordan Troopers.

I have 4 sets of n- square listed in the " accessories for sale" section. I don't have any j frame available right now. The ones pictured are already sold. I am trying to figure out what to work on nexxt.

I don't know about j frame square butt. Its kind of rare to see one... I don't know of if there's enough interest to make a inletting template for them or finding a gun to do final fitting.
unless you mean round to square conversion for J-frame?

Default S&W Grips

Would love to have 3 sets of S&W Round Butt Target grips complete with checkering and medallions! Reasonably priced. Hope I'm not asking too much! Lol Would also like to see the safariland Lightning grips made out of walnut for J and K Frames.

Take a look at the stocks that come on the PC 686, They fit just perfect however they have SSR engraved on them and are laminate, I have several sets, Hate the look but are truly functional, great for the speed loader perfect other than the Look.

Great for RB K's would love them for N's too.

I too would love "Target" grips for N Frames without so much hanging off on the bottom and possibly slightly rounded off. Some of the picture examples here are great.

PLeeeeeeese! K frame checkered target grips with diamond around the screw, with a coke profile, done in dark walnut or rosewood. Exactly like S&W made in the late 50s when they valued comfort & quality more than "the bottom line".

I'd like a set J-frame round to square butt grips that look like the one Iggy posted or look like extended spegel boot grips for my Model 34.22kit gun w/ a 4" barrel.

Or looking again at your post #13..... a set of those in walnut for the J-frame...... round to square.

If you can make an accurate copy of S&W combat and S&W smooth Presentation Target grips I think you would do well. You would need to get the S&W emblems and install them properly. They would not be factory but as John Culina has shone if you made great grips we members of the forum will buy them as John's are artistic and we love them.

S I have decided to work on K-frames like what Zebulon and blaze have asked for AND
More J frame like what is pictured above(open back). Also a few sets will be Closed back like the j compac design. I MAY try a set with a belt clip just to see how it goes. I will keep an eye out for a squarebutt J frame revolver for cheap to make grips from... well see. I make everything in batches. So it will be at least a month before anything get to the final finishing stage. PLEASE be patient. Good things take time... Keep posting ideas.... you have all been really helpful.

I would like to see Roper-style K and N frame targets, the same contours as factory Target stocks but smaller/thinner in all dimensions. Those of us with smaller hands thank you!

K frame conversion round to square butt. A little narrower at the lower end for the pinky with some type of thumb rest which allows easy extraction.

I have a set of these that I bought for my Taurus but they were the wrong ones. I'm looking for something with the finger grooves and exotic wood like Rosewood. Here is what the ones you posted look like on a 586. Yes those are for the Taurus

The batch of N frame that I just got finished making are basically
"Cokes" with a reduced palmswell. They're relieved a little more at the base / heel of hand to accomidate the reduced palmswell. I too have small hands and found that the Custom "Cokes" I bought several years ago where too wide to fit right. Also I sought out to use higher quality and more figured wood, Wich I did.

I would be interested in target grips for an X frame, 6.5 inch, 500 S&W. I know it is a K/L round butt however, I'm looking for something larger, with a palm swell and maybe even a thumb rest. Finger grooves possible. Very dense wood. Covered back strap.

I know demand for such grips may be small but I would like grips that balance the revolver better in both feel and appearance.

Thanks for asking,
Don

Uhhh yes please!. I'd love an alternative to the plastic Barami hip grip, even better if it is a boot grip style. There has got to be a market out there for a nice wood j frame hip grip.

Those look ideal! Curly walnut is high on my list of wood on guns. 1st for rifles and 2nd for revolvers(just behind maple on blued guns)

This sounds good to me, including the dark color to set off my stainless K-frames. The K-frame sized Roper style also sounds good to me (again in darker wood.) One thing you haven't mentioned is price range for these... that will make a big difference in whether I can justify a set (or more) with all the other projects. Also, do you expect to provide them with checkering?

I am still up in the air on price. I was hoping to get more feedback from you guys. A few years ago when I first tried to sell on here, $75-$90 was what "the other guy" was charging for smooth grips with no medallions. BTW I have aquired about 6 sets of medallions wich cost $20 a set. I have practiced checkering on a couple old grips but that is going to take more time before I am wiling to do it to a nice set. What I really need is one of those Foredom power checkering head wich is $600 . Oh and a Grizzly Bandsaw wich is $500 for resaw capability. I have alot of nice wood that is 2-3inches thick, everything has to be got down to about an "1 in thickness.

Anyway I am willing to sell cheaper just to get my Grips in your guys hands. I make an Awesome product, I need to build a customer base. The J-frame and K-frame grips sound like a $ 50-75 based on wood quaility, medallions ,etc.

*Also I will pay for Silver membership as soon as someone buys a set of my grips....I have had 4 sets of N-frame Square "cokes" for sell in the Accsescories for sale section since labor day. I DON'T KNOW HOW #2 hasn't been sold yet.

Default Just putting this out there so don't smack my hand please,....

Why couldn't the grip panels be made with the screw cup in different size and have a way to part off your favorite revolver cartridge head or rim section parted off and inset. the flash hole is already a perfect screw size. That way you can embellish and show your pride for "X" chambering. This wouldn't work for Rim fire of course. Hell in about 1 hr I or a friend could part off about 500 or many more case heads using the ole Hardige Collete (SP) lathe. Yes this would be alot of brass chucking in and out. But I'd do it fer you guys on this forum.

Target style thinner N-frame square butts with open back and combat finger grooves.

THANK YOU... THAT WAS AFTER THE FIRST LAYER OF FINISH. THEY LOOK AMAZING NOW ... ALL THE CURL SHOWS THROUGH. You are the first person to show any interest in those N -frame round ( I think I am going to call them "SKULLCRACKER COMBATS" ) grips. They hapen to be my favorite grips to shoot. The little pinky extension reminds me of the skullcracker on the old Merwin hullbert revolvers.
