S&W 648 Born-on Date?
I'm new here. I've heard there is a book (bible) for S&W, but there's no way to check the serial# on-line???
Can any of the experts here tell me about my
6" S&W 648, no lock, no dash.
It's serial # is BFJ64XX.
Thanks...
PS: I haven't shot it for ~20 years!

Welcome to the forum.
The book is the Standard Catalog of S&W, 3rd edition and it says your gun would come from between Aug. 1990 and Jan. 1991.
Wait, taking another look it may have come a little earlier in 1990. The book is not precise with all these 3 letter prefixes.

OK, thanks. Good job. That born-on date makes perfect sense cause I know I got this SST 648 22Mag 2 to 3 years before marriage!
The buyer has a busy schedule, but I think it's going off to a new home sometime this week.

still have my 648 no-dash stored...
I realized I have my 648 no-dash w/desirable wooden combat grips still stored safely away. What are they going for now?
