327 TRR8/M&P R8 Differences
Another forum on this subject existed but the question was not answered.
The obvious difference between the two is the skeleton or full ejector rod shroud and the integral or removable rail.
Is that all there is different between these two?
Also, pictures of either model with accesories would be appreciated.
And this is my 300th post

That is the only difference I know of and the front sight on the R8 is a gold dot versus the white dot on the TRR8.

My M&P 327 R8 has a white bead front sight. That doesn't matter any more as I have added a C-more railway.
I used it for the first time with the C-more in OSR category at a Steel Challenge match yesterday. It was awesome!

Interesting they would make two models so similar.
It must work for them though since both are still offered.

While cleaning the M&P 327 I noticed that the white front sight isn't a bead. It is a white dot counter sunk into the blade of the front sight?

My TRR8 had a gold dot.
Also, both rails are removable on the TRR8, and only the top rail on the R8.
The TRR8 also has a window on the lower lug, and the R8 is solid.

Nothing wrong with having a little fun, if the gun allows it. :]

Excelent advice. My wife has one, it shoots great! I also have a 686 PP with 6" barrel that is quite fun to shoot.

It is probably one of the best double actions you will ever fire on a revolver. It is smooth, light and crisp. I like the looks of the 627PC better but with the Scandium frame and the heavy front barrel, it balances out perfectly. I'm not much of a tactical firearm guy and I prefer the looks of the TRR8 because you can remove the picatinny rail underneath the barrel were as the R8 it is part of the barrel.

I do not think a 649 is ugly. It has a purpose that works well. This gun grew on me for looks. I bought it because I got a good deal on it and I heard great things of the trigger. I figured I can always sell it and get a 627PC. Well I may just keep it after all.

I like the idea of the gun 8 rds 357 , but the cylinder is large for carry, where my sigma has 16 rds of 40 sw and I live with it every day. Besides I know I would poke my self with the bayonet!!!!

The R8 has a polygonal barrel; the TRR8 has a conventional rifled barrel. I have the TRR8 - it's awesome.

What type of rifling would be best with lead bullets?
Polygonal or conventional ?
I am asking this because I use hand loads for Steel Challenge. I use 38's with a 120gn RNFP

Lead vs polygonal / conventional
Conventional is reportably friendlier to lead bullets.

I have a TRR8 & the rifling is not conventional (broached), it's ECM/EDM. S&W doesn't use polygonal rifling, but the ECM/EDM rifling is often confused with it.
I will agree it's awesome though.
