Default Altamont Boot Grips for 642 ~ Help!

Hi all,

I am on a mission to find a specific grip for my new 642. I have held out for over a year to finally find a brand new 642-1 (no lock) and it was well worth it; this revolver is beautiful to me, and I did not want the IL to ruin it :P

My quest to continue beautification includes a specific Altamont Boot Grip that I cannot find anywhere (i've even contacted Altamont last week, they haven't responded.)

This is the grip I am looking for, exactly, with s&w silver medallion, diamond inlay etc... ONLY found on this website...
Getting a Grip

Is this an older grip they used to make? Do you think they would make this if I requested it? Can any of you guys help me locate it? Thanks!

Also here's a pic of my new 642 just because

I can't help with the grip question. But, just so you know, S&W currently offers new production 642's without the IL.

I've been looking for a pre-lock 638 for a while and recently gave up and bought one with the IL. While I was searching I did find an online retailer that offers the no-lock 642's for $339 shipped. With my luck, now that I settled for one with the IL, S&W will probably offer no-lock 638's next week.....

All of the new production Altamont book grips have the fluer de lis as far as I know. You might try looking on ebay.

What Old cop said. I have the very same ones in your pic(checkered rosewood)on my 442 pro. I have bought a few grips from her and they all come with the S&W medalions. She's great ships fast and has a pleasant accent. Here's a pic

eazyrhino ~ I have seen the fleur de lis ones on the Altamont website, I was really hoping to find the EXACT ones referenced in the pic I attached (with the diamond at the screw hole.)

Imaposer ~ I don't understand what the differences would be between a 642-2 (no lock version), and a 642-1 (which has no lock), that would make them the "same thing".
I bought my 642-1 new in box, recent prod date, they still make them, and they are still 642-1's.

Old cop ~ thanks for the link, so close!!! They actually have a black grip (with diamond) in the header of this page, but not listed for sale!

Hello everyone, this is my first post, and I joined for many reasons, but felt compelled to do so today to respond to this post. Those grips you are looking for, as well as what I've been looking for, are/were made by Eagle Grips at one time. They were the Secret Service grip with what at the time was a $40.00 option to add the S&W medallions. I spoke with them recently and was informed they no longer make that grip, and have no plans on re-introducing them. IMHO, the current J frame Secret Service offerings are less than acceptable. Hope that helps

Check the S&W website- they offer some wood grips that might have the medallions you're looking for. They might even be made by Altamont.
FWIW it's my understanding that the no-lock 442's now being produced by S&W's are indeed 442-1's. Per the SCSW, the engineering change which accompanied the 442-2 designation was adding the internal-lock system along with some internal MIM parts. So it stands to reason that a new no-lock would revert back to the 442-1 designation.

I have ordered 4 sets of Altamont grips. I was happy with all 4 sets. The first two were S&W factory offerings (No Medallions)

The last two I went direct to Altamont and for an extra $10 had the Medallions installed.

My advice, since you have learned the Diamond Boot Grips are no longer made, find a set of grips on the Altamont web site that you do like. The Super Rosewood looks great. The price is not bad either. Make sure to add the Medallions.

Bob

You could also try a wanted to buy ad here in The Classifieds.
If ever there was a place, where a member might have a pair
of those stashed away in a box somewhere, this would be it.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Altamont's web site doesn't show these K-Combats either but after a phone call explaining what I wanted, they were made and delivered in less than 4 weeks. (800) 626-5774

Holy Smokes! I didn't know Altamont made sq. butt J frame grips.

They look striking, especially with the laser checkering and fleur de lis in super walnut, but I dislike their proportions in relation to the overall size of the firearm.

It does stand to reason, however, that is not always S&W's policy.
My M442-2 does not have a lock. It was made in about 2009.

Best,
Rick
