Default S&W M&P340 better than LCR 357? YES!

Hi Gang...first post here I think.

Over the years I've owned a few S&W guns (686-2 2.5" [was very accurate with that gun], 627 pro, and recently the M&P 340)

I had 2 ruger redhawks in 44mag that i hated and sold in a month. i bought a LCR in 357 wanting a CCW...

#1, the thing was very nice with 38s with the grip, and brutal as hell with 357. nice grip, nice price, nice trigger. but even with my upgraded XS sight i couldnt even keep on a silhouette at 7 yards .. after 300 rounds i sold it, vowing never to get another j frame sized revolver because i just cant hit with it.

ran across a good deal on a no lock 340 with a 9lb trigger kit installed.

took the light beast to the range with other toys with 4 different variations of ammo (winchester +P+ [my fav], 158gr magtech fmj 357, speer sb 135gr? 357, and some 158gr 38 magtech target loads [200 rounds to be exact])

i was SHOCKED at the accuracy i was able to pull with the 38s and +p+, didnt do too bad with the Short Barrel stuff either....loaded the magtech 357 fmj and holy **** that hurt, bad...bad bad...i'm 272 5'10 ex military and former powerbuilder, and it still hurt lol.

after that i developed a hellacious flinch that made me inaccurate with anything afterwords. i plan on taking it back and shooting it each time until i develop my flinch, and trying to shoot more each time.

the point is, for the first 50+ rounds i was damn accurate with it...as accurate as my Kahr CM9..and that sold me forever

F the LCR...i don't know why i couldnt hit with it...i couldnt even see where the bullets were going

Wow! I can put them into a softball size group at 20 yards pretty easily with my LCR. Maybe you got a bad one or something? The 357s are painful after a while though. The 38's and +Ps are fine to shoot, IMO. Wouldn't mind a 340 for the other hand though.

Would seem you have "issues" with Rugers. Redhawks are excellent guns, bull strong and have decent triggers despite the "I hate Ruger triggers" gang. Don

I'm glad yours came with a 9 pound trigger pull. My M&P 340's trigger is down to 11+ pounds after a fair amount of work. Nice and smooth though now.

If you reload, I suggest a light load under a 148 grain HBWC for practice. And getting rid of a flinch is the opposite of working out. The moment that you feel the flinch, stop shooting. Heck, everyone should have a .22 handy for just those occasions. Dry fire practice every day too (be safe about it!).

I can't disagree with what you've found, I have a 340nl also and absolutely love it. I carry it nearly every day. I haven't found a snubby I can shoot nearly as well as this one.

well it didnt come with a 9lb...it has an apex(?) carry kit in it that brough it down.

it's VERY close to the LCR trigger, just a little longer and it can be staged (that's the other thing...no definate staging of an LCR)

totally agree with the flinching..that's my goal...go longer and longer before the flinch then stop shootin it for the day.
