I wonder how many they have & how long they will last? I bought a set 4 months ago- same deal, close-out item at $15.
They come up on ebay pretty often but usually for more money than this. I bought 3 sets from someone on the forum a couple weeks ago for ten bucks a whack, so I'm good to go for at least my next few j-frames.

I'm wondering that myself.

I bought 4 sets from S&W, at the same price, about 6 or 7 months ago.

Maybe it's like the furniture store's "going out of business sale" that's been going on for lke 2 years.
I'm just glad that these grips are still available at a reasonable price. I like the looks of wood grips, but these UM boots fit my hand well & provide a secure grip so they're on all of my keeper RB j-frames. I just wish they'd made them for SB j's, and that they hadn't gone out f production.

Maybe they're dumping all of those because they don't have the logo? The new J's come with the logo and torx screw. I have bought several sets off e-bay from a seller that must have had a truck-load....with the logo. If I can get the 442 take-offs with the logo for around the same price.....no-brainer.

I think those are a bit different-- if it's the ones I saw on ebay not long ago, they're the "fish-scale" grips. I handled a j-frrame at the LGS that had a set of those- not long enugh to decide if I liked them, but long enough to notice that they're different from the uncle mikes. Thought about buying some, but since I already know that I like the UM's I decided to just stick with them.

I just ordered some for my model 19. I absolutely hate the wood target grips. My brother has one, but it came stock with the UM grips. Mine is a square butt, but I'm wondering, based on this picture of the "conversion" grips, it looks like you could easily convert it to square butt with an exacto knife by trimming away the area away that makes it fit a round butt. What do you think...would it work? Or am I missing something?

Cheers,
Chris

Or you could convert your square butt K frame to a round butt. There are gunsmiths that list this as one of their standard services, usually not too expensive. Brownells sells a jig for this if you're a DIY'er.

Nice heads up. I have a 442 that came with some nice looking wood grips. I love the gun for pocket carry, and it looks good, but it is definitely no fun at the range. A year or two ago, I got to shoot a shooting buddy's 642 with rubber grips (probably Uncle Mike's but I don't remember). It made all the difference in the world, still not fun with +P (but not quite painful anymore either) and much nicer with regular .38spl. I have a set of UM boot grips on my Taurus 85 and I love the grips. I was thinking of seeing what I'd have to do to covert the Taurus Uncle Mikes to fit my J-frame (since I don't pocket carry the 85, I want some grips that won't leave my pinky dangling), but I may just order them from S&W and not bother.

I used to have a Taurus model 85 in addition to my S&W j-frames, I think you can modify the UM boots from the Taurus to fit the j-frame just by drilling a new hole in each side for the stock pin to fit into. It's not rocket science, but it's gotta be just right to fit and not let the grips wallow around. Not sure it's worth it to save 22 bucks (including shipping).

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
