Default Lew Horton 24-3 "1st 100"

Normally I'm not interested in "Limited Edition" guns, but this one just grabbed me. Ser.# is AEJ22** I know I know, what good is it if you won't shoot it. But for once, I just wanted something kinda neat. Please excuse my photo skills, still learning how to drive this new fangled digital camera. OD
Edit 12/5/12 Uploaded some better photos.

Mines not engraved.

I thought that there were some earlier prefixes?

How do you know this is the first 100?

Hi WG, I just mailed in a letter request to Mr. Jinks, although I don't know if he can shed any light on the subject of "1st", I did read in the SCSW that the first 100 guns were engraved by S&W. And as for ser.#s, I am new at the collecting angle, but I have read a lot about how the factory didn't ship guns in sequence. I have a Pre-24 that was first stamped with the ser.# of a .38OD that was shipped a couple of years previously, and had to be overstamped by the factory per the letter from Roy Jinks. Edit: End label on the box has the LH 100787 code, date stamp is 4184. That's all I can decipher.
Edit 12/4: I have learned that S&W did similar engraving and shipped with a red velvet lined wood case for the first 100 624 Lew Hortons too. I found an old thread here with a photo of one. I called LH and the nice fella there confirmed my 24-3 was one of theirs from 1984.

I had forgotten about the "Special Combat" description from back then. Congrats on a special 44 Special.

Nice Gun,Nothing looks better than a deep blue smith with combat grips.I have a LH 29-4 3" .44MAG W/Factory Mag-Na-Port.I was going to keep it as a safe queen but it is just too damn cool of a gun not to shoot.I figure if I loose a couple hundered bucks in value the fun off shooting a .44MAG snubby will make up for it.

I've got both a 24-3 and a 624, both Lewis Horton guns. Love 'em. If you find one, buy it.
