I just wanted to say hello to everyone and ask a couple of questions. I just got my first revolver. A s&w 629-1 it has only 25 rounds through it. Is it safe to carry it fully loaded or only five thanks guys.

P.s. what grips do you recommend.

Yes it is perfectly safe to carry with 6 rounds. That is mainly older single actions that need "5 Beans In The Wheel". In World War II they made the M&P safe when one went off on a ship when dropped. Since then they're all safe.
What kind of grips do you want, wood or rubber?

If you've never fired a .44 Magnum before I'm sure the recoil will startle you. They kick pretty good. Rubber grips will make it much more pleasant.

Oh, and by the way, you're on the S&W site, if they're wood you have to call them "stocks". Otherwise Lee, who owns the Forum, will make you sit in the corner.

Welcome from Maine, your dash 1 is a fine gun, just stay away from heavy loads, stick to regular 240gr mags or better yet a midrange load, like a 250K at 950-1000, as for stocks most of us like the looks of a factory target, combat or something from one of the many custom grip makers, you just have to find what works for you, I tend to shy away from rubber grips even on the hard kickers, I feel all they do is give the gun a running start into your hand, another thing we all enjoy is photos, so put one up if you can,

Welcome from across the river in VT. Have a couple of N frames, no 44's but 357 and 45. I have big long fingered hands, for me I get the most comfort and control from Ahrends Tactical Smooth Stocks. Best assortment and service from Terri at Gripsellers on Ebay. Be prepared because like holsters you will end up with a drawer full before your done and then the only remedy is more guns.

All Smith revolvers, (all manufacturers?), have a hammer block so it's very safe to carry a full compliment of 6 rounds.

As for grips it is all in what feels good to you. I don't have a .44 mag but even in .357 the wood stocks don't allow for as much control when firing full mags loads. Looking at the picture it is strictly a matter of preference as to which looks better but the Houges on the 686 are easier to hold on to than the Spegels on the 586, especially after you sweat a little!
