Default Need help choosing my next revolver

Hi all I have been scouring the internet with google the past week and need some help making up my mind. I live in Tn and spend a good deal of my time hiking/ and fishing. I am planning on going to Alaska for a family fishing trip as well.

I am looking for a revolver the S&W 329 Alaskan Backpacker to be exact it seems to have moved to the top of my list. I originally was looking at the S&W 460 with a 5" barrel and was considering the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in 44 or 454.

I cant find a lot of info on the S&W Alaskan Backpacker I like the weight and reliability of the revolver platform and it would be a more carry then used gun. I would like to be able to carry some stout loads when in the woods and 44 specials the other times. Would the 329 Alaska backpacker handle a round like the 310gr Garrett hammerhead?

I currently have a glock 20sf/29sf a taurus raging bull in 44 & a S&W 629 stealth hunter and the S&W governor. My current favorite hiking gun is a chiappa rhino 200ds 357 mag.

I am just looking for as much info as I can get about the 329 Alaska Backpacker I think it would fit perfect into my woods gun collection am I wrong?

Thanks for the help all

Just one point, I don't think you would be able to carry it into Canada. They have very strict laws regarding handguns.

Yeah poor Canadians, most of my family live in WA state so we would fly out of WA state so whatever i was bringing i would check in my bag and then just use when i got to Alaska, my dad who is retired spends a lot of time up in canada fishing though. I have never been to Alaska so figured good as time as any and i love to fish so best of both worlds. Any thoughts on the Alaskan backpacker 329

The Smith 460 or the Ruger SRH would be ideal Alaskan weapons IMHO.

Hi Larry thanks for the vote I agree with you I liked the 460 in 5" because I could use the 45 colt most of the time and then load "hot" when needed I love my 44's and trying to cut down on different ammo.

I plan to start reloading soon I know how I am though and packing around a heavy gun all day is probably not going to happen. Would the 460 with a 5" barrel be significantly heavier then the 329 Alaskan? I could get both and probably eventually will but want one for the here and now.

Thanks

There is a considerable weight savings with the 329. I didn't realize how light they are. 29 oz snubby could be a pocket gun. I'd like to shoot one before I bought it though.
