S&W model 18-3 Combat masterpiece Value
I have a beautiful S&W model 18-3 Combat masterpiece. It has the larger target grips, and is an older model (I was told by the seller) due to the small roll stamp on the barrel. I have $800 into it.... Did I pay too much? I would like to sell it but I will just keep it if I can't get my money out of it.
Thanks guys!
Serial #: 6K71092

It is a 1975 shipped gun and looks very nice. I think it is a keeper.

Thank you sir! Appreciate your help very much. Any idea what I SHOULD ask should I decide to take a loss on it? Just the gun - no box or papers....

These are very popular at present, but I think around $600 is at the high end of current pricing. More motivation to keep and shoot it if you can...

+1 ^^^ I think you can get 600 out of it since it is nice.
There is one (18-3) at a lgs which I have seen and is ANIB/NIB priced at $819. Its been there a couple months. Prices do vary from place to place and I have seen some of the "big dogs" online pull 950-1000 for NIB 18s.

Murphydog may be right - I wish he was - but it's got a lot to do with location and of course, condition is everything.
Only saying that I have been looking for some time and locally these never come up. I've seen one at a gun show in the last two years, beat to pieces and over-priced, and one owned by a club member who only laughs at you when asked what it would take to buy it.
Having said that, $800 is more that I was willing to pay but I paid more than I wanted to put one in the collection . . . but I always operated on the principle that (in the proper condition) $50 to $100 wouldn't deter me long for something I really wanted if one didn't turn up in my desired price range after a certain amount of diligent searching. But I find they generally catch up and surpass in value what I paid since I keep them and I'm past the point of buying on a whim and discovering I want something different/more shiny next week.

A lot of it has to do with where you live and the availability because if you rarely see one for sale and want one you would be more inclined to pay more. That said I think you over paid because if you are lucky around here you can get one LNIB with all the goodies for $700.
My Model 18-3 with Kurac Colo Bolo grips that I bought for $700 with all the goodies including grips matched to the gun

IMO, $800 is high and is more than I'd pay but I've been falsely accused of being tight.
As stated, it depends a lot on your location. I'm thinking $600-$650 is the upper range of my value of it. Even that price is more than I'd pay but I already have an 18.

I posted it for $700 on MGO and got no hits..... I will lower the price and give it another go in a day or two. Probably do the $600 thing if buyer pays shipping and FFL fees. I wouldn't have gone this low if not for your input. Thank you all very much. Just trying to get some Christmas money out of this.

I've got a bit over $500 into my 18-3 that I bought this year.
Hopefully someone will pay $600 for yours.

Franken K -frame .22
I wanted an 18 so bad a few years ago that I bought a nice 17 for about $400 I think and had my smith put a 4" barrel on it!
Got no idea what it's worth but I'll never unload it anyway. A K-frame .22 is for keeping and shooting!

I saw $850 buy a 98% 5 screw in the gold box with numbered grips this weekend at NGD. I'd say $600 is about right on today's market. Three years ago I'd have said 400-450 and I expect it will continue to keep up with inflation and maybe do a bit better.

I gave around $500 for my 18-3 about 6 months ago and would not sell it for twice that. These are the best .22s S&W ever made.

I've seen 3 in the last 3 months for $475. to $550. People need money this time of year? Bill's, Taxes and Christmas.

hello ,
few questions on the Model 19-3 357`s . i came into possession of one, and my question is , these modifications were made from the factory when the weapon was manufactured>? and is there a location i can go to to see what the modifications were>?. serial number has a "9k " prefix as well as the "mod 19-3". also has "hogue" grips. the weapon was handed down to me and just trying to get a handle on this gun.
any direction would be a great help .
