Default Buying 327 Performance Centre

Hi guys,

I'm a big fan of .357m revolvers and have decided to spoil myself with a Performance Centre gun. At this stage I'm very keen on the 2" 8 shot 327 because it can be carried if desired and will make a good home defense revolver.

I can't find many posts on the gun and would appreciate any information from guys who have experience with it before I laydown the kind of cash shops are asking.

With thanks, Racingsnake

The 357 Magnum revolvers are some of the most popular and best regarded handguns that come out of the Performance Center. The PC 327 is an attractive model, but I would invite you to look also at the 2-5/8" barrel PC 627. Heavier frame means less recoil (38 oz. vs 21 oz.), and the extra .625" of barrel probably gives you a tiny bit of advantage in muzzle velocity. It certainly gives a bit more ejector length when it comes time to dump the empties.

I don't know if this matters to you, but the 327 does not come moonclip-ready in the box. The 627 is cut for moonclips and can be loaded singly as well.

I can't tell you about the feel of the 327 because I don't own and haven't shot one. But I know the 627 is a fine revolver. I liked it so much I bought a second one.

(Well, not exactly, but I did end up with two and I am not about to sell either one. I ordered one new and during the long wait stumbled across an almost new one on the consignment shelf. Talk about an easy decision.)

The SEARCH function is our friend. Using the tag 327 I found 20 pages of topics. Below are three of the better examples.

8 shot revolver

S&W 327 PC 2"

The Ideal N Frame Snubbie...

BTW, DCWilson is mistaken. The revolver that you posted a picture of does come from the factory set up for moon clips as are all of the 8 shot, 357 Magnum revolvers that the Performance Center offers.

I own many 8 shot, 357 Magnum revolvers. 4 of them are 327s.

A lightweight, 2", 357 Magnum revolver is a good thing to carry but a poor choice for a home defense revolver. For home defense you do not need a short barrel or light weight. A 4" or 5" revolver made of carbon or stainless is a better home gun.

Colt SAA, thanks for the correction. I saw no reference to moon clips on the PC 327 page and took silence to mean that the feature was absent. Moonclip use is mentioned explicitly for the PC 627 model.

I think 2" barrels on the .357 Magnum are too short. You get too much muzzle blast and loss of velocity to be worth it. I shot a 327 and did not care for it much. It pretty much kicks like a mule. But it would be lighter to carry than an all stainless steel 627 2 5/8. It is much softer shooting than the 327. Just my .02 worth.

Hi David you make a good point regarding the 627. Is that similar to the original 'Blood Work' model? Have you been able to find holsters for the gun?

CAA and Richard thanks for your thoughts on weight for home defense and recoil. The carry weight really is a non-issue for home protection and if I want a belt gun there are better options than the 327.

You do realize that there are 5" 327s availble. Here is my older 357JM with it's titanium cylinder.

Here is my Pinto 327 TRR8

A 5" scandium framed 357 with the stainless cylinder, like a TRR8 or M&P R8, weighs about the same as a 4" model 19 or 66. Scandium is a wonderful advancement for N-frame revolvers.
