School Me - N Frame Round Butt Target Stocks?
Love shooting my 629 Classic, but the rubber Hogue's feel "narrow" in my hands.
I'm running a set of these cheap Jay Scott's on the 686 and really like them.
Who, if anyone, makes a thicker, target-style stock to fit the round butt N frames? (Besides Nill's which are out of my budget.)

I have a couple of sets of stocks from Herrett's & I really like them.
Try Gun stocks by Herrett's Stocks, Inc.
I think you will like them & they will make them to your measurment of your hand!

Check ebay. Every now and then you can find a nice old set of factory target grips at a reasonable price. At the other extreme, there's a $600.00 buy-it-now set of cokes on ebay right now. With patience though, you can do much, much better.

doc540,
Check out Ahrend grips. He has some nice retro target and combat grips in the wood of your choice for $60.00. They look so nice I ordered a matching set of retro combat in cocobola for a N-frame and a K-frame as a Christmas present for myself. Total cost 2 sets with postage $126.00...hard to beat a deal like that. Ahrends Grips : Home

When I spoke with Kim a few weeks ago, he said he doesn't make a checkered target stock.

If you look at the Smith & Wesson online store they show a round to square N frame checkered conversion grip which I think is made in laminated walnut ( I suspect by Altamont).
Also if you go to Altamonts website you will see in the Smith & Wesson N frame section a nice checkered target stock with finger grooves (round to square conversion).
Another option is to look on either EBay USA or Gunbroker for a set of round to square N frame grips which are made of genuine walnut, not that laminated stuff.
These grips arent common but they do come up from time to time.
I believe these were made for one of the N frame models which were put out by the Performance Centre, (not totally certain if I am right about that.
I managed to snare a set on EBay some time back and I reshaped the top of them slightly to fit on my 617-6 K frame.
Beautiful looking grips and a perfect fit for my big hands.

I have a pair of ACE grips that you may be interested in. They are a round to square butt conversion in a black/grey wood laminate. I believe they were made for S&W to sell a few years ago. They're in unused condition. The price is $60.00 shipped, if your interested.
