Wink New Grips on My 629 Classic

Hi All:

I've shot my 5" 44Mag/Spcl three times now and today we put the new Ahrends Retro Combats in Maple on it. Wow, my shooting in both DA/SA really improved, and the nice thing is that it's still not a kicking jackass to shoot - more feel of course than the stock rubber but nothing to complain about. Just more sensitive and a terrific fit for my hands; the grips are smaller than the factory stock grips in that hard black rubber.

Now, before y'all go pillorying me over no pics, I gotta figure how to upload them. I'm puzzled why it's so da__d complicated and I ain't no faint hearted techie either. Of course, I may know more about Prada but that's to be expected!

Take care all,

Rachel

Don't worry Rachel, you are not the only one who is still trying to figure this picture thing out and I repaired computer controlled radar systems in the Marine Corps...

Rachel, I had to change out the OEM grip on my 629 Classic too - it was bruising the knuckle of my middle finger. I prefer a nice wood stock but in a pinch put on a black rubber Hogue and the problem went away. Funny how a new grip can make such a difference.

Have you tried Photobucket for posting pictures? I found it to be a pretty easy thing to deal with once you set it up. Not too hard and I'm no IT/Computer techie.

Rachel, I needed guidance, too. But it's easy after you do it the first time. Like a lot of other things in life...

Go to Photobucket.com and set up an account. Then click on "Upload" and it will walk you through uploading photos from your PC. Once you have them in your Photobucket library, you can click on the little settings icon (looks like a small sprocket in the upper right corner of each photo) and when the drop-down menu opens, click on "Direct Link." Now that photo's web address is stored in your PC.

Back in the S&W Forum, go to the thread to which you wish to post a photo, open a reply window and click on the yellow box that looks like photo of a mountain with the sun overhead that appears in the grey border right above the text area. Click in the window with the "http" business in it and when it turns blue, hit your delete key to clear the window. Then "paste" the web address for your photo and click on "Okay."

Congrats - you've done gone and done it!

Ed

Hi AE: Thanks for the advice. Wonder why not upload from one's machine directly? Oh well, but thank you again.

I think it has to do with the file size. If you can figure out the maximum allowable image size for this site, you can either resize them in your computer (don't ask me how!) or maybe in the camera itself. It took me a few years and a new camera to sort the direct upload thing. Taking photos with the camera set to "VGA" and editing with whatever limited functions the camera has internally seems to be the easiest way for me to do direct uploads. (Oh, my "new" camera also allows internal editing of existing photos on the card to different resolution settings, so no need to take more picture.)

However, as annoying as Photobucket is getting (worse with each of their "upgrades"!), it's what I use for most of the time for this h'yar interweb piccie thing. I use the "IMG" macro and paste directly in the post.

Since this isn't the computer with my photos stored within, direct uploads are not possible! Another advantage of the evil Photobucket...

Dear Jay M: Thanks for the input and I understand resolution/file size restriction. I'm stuck on finding a way to get the site to upload directly from my Mac. I'll go the 'Bucket' route if I have to (tics me off at my age as everything seems like a bucket activity - yuk, yuk).

Anyway, really appreciate your help and your posts too. You make the site a better place, as do many others.

TTFN,

Rachel

Hopefully it won't be too much imposition to try a direct upload on what should be a celebration of your ergonomic improvement! But this isn't my primary internet hangout, so haven't yet tried it here. (Old military weapons have been my collecting focus since high school. S&Ws have been primarily for shooting!)

ETA:Well, it's a bit small, unless clicked on multiple times. It's a start, I reckon. Thanks for the opportunity to get "knowed up" a little! Looking forward to seeing your new grips.

ETA2: Ach, hovering over the image a bit "auto enlarges" it! Learning all the time here...

Hi Jay:

Loved the pic - and your skill seems fine to me! So I played some more this evening and found where the upload comes from with help from the thread here (Yea and thanks).

I'll have to shoot some pics tomorrow of the re-shod 629 Classic and upload them to this thread. In a about 4 months the 44 goes to Jeff Flannery for some engraving (his work is beautiful and I plan to get a coyote howling at moon with nice ivy running down the barrel and across the cylinder - simple and plain, understated), and I'm going to get the action and trigger worked on at S&W. It'll become the center piece of my S&W collection.

And the 629 goes to the range in the morning as does my P220 Equinox for another round of casual shooting with a friend - she's my business partner and I introduced her to shooting these past few months. I surprised her when she got really interested and bought her a new P220 SS 45ACP a few weeks ago (she's smiling like the cat that just swallowed the gold fish), which she shoot's for the 1st time tomorrow. We picked it up today. It should be fun.

Take good care and keep posting my friend,

Rachel
