Default Busted 460 XVR

Just joined your forum and thought I'd put up a question
Just bought a new 460 Mag with the 8 3/8" barrel.
Was pretty exited about this one. Took it home, fired ONE round and the top of the "hand" broke off. Bummerrrr!
Already got the return for repair stuff on the way.
But, sheese, been shooting S&Ws for 50 years and never seen this happen.
Anybody heard about any production problems at their plant?
TIA

Ah, how you gonna show a picture of a hand with the end snapped off without tearing down the gun?

Sorry about your gun that sucks, I don't usually follow the X frame stuff but I did hear about a new 29-10 breaking the hand in the first couple of cylinders, I think they fixed it right up and he's still shooting it as far as I know

Nope. ain't touching a screw when it's all still on S&Ws dime.
Anybody ought to know what the hand looks like on a S&W.
All I actually asked was if anyone had heard of some recent production problems like this.
Never got and answer and the gun's headed back.
Sorry I asked.

JM
Cool down. If you have been around these talk shows as long as I have you will learn that what you think is interesting, often aint.
No slam was intended, as far as I could read.
Hang around for awhile and you will learn to read this place.
I POST STUFF ALL THE TIME THAT GOES DOWN THE TOILET.
Course I aint the brightest bulb in the box--so that helps a lot.
Take deep breaths and don't push it if it don't move.
Blessings

The truth is, anything break. S&W will fix most of the time but if you wanna shoot, you should get a set of good tool and learn how they work. Those side plate screws on X frames tend to loosen up if you shoot heavy stuff so occasional check up is recommended. Unless you enjoy packing and sending it back every so often.

I didnt mean any slam....Was just trying to offer a reason why no one seemed interested in your thread. Now, if you were asking for help you probably would have gotten a different response.

When my 500 was skipping cylinders I removed the side plate to see if anyting looked "off" Nothing was suspect so I put it back on and sent it in. They fixed it (as they should have) and never said anything about the side cover being messed with.

This is why I buy S&W they stand behind their product. I know some think theres way too much poor quality out there but I feel those ones fail to realize just how many guns S&W has to produce to keep up with demand. And that ***** happens and things break.

They will fix your problem and you will have your gun back in 10 days and this issue will be gone

Since no one has said it yet... welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about the problem with your revolver and I hope the situation is resolved to your satisfaction very soon.

???

Perhaps because no one else has had the same problem?

I've contemplated getting a .460, but the deer around here are smallish and rarely can I use the extended range of this revolver.

Here's a photo of a hand that's not broken. (Not on purpose, but it shows there's potential.). Perhaps a shot from a downwards angle would show your drama?

We roped a goat not long ago. Surprisingly easy, but the critter sure made a racket! (And later proved to be quite tasty...)

ETA: If it makes you feel better (and even if it doesn't), here's a thread of mine that has had over 400 views and not one response! (Which is fine, at least folk look!):

S&W Holster for the Lew Horton Model 624 3"
