Got it in today 64-5 3"
Well it came and I cleaned it all up, opened up the side plate (proper way), checked it all out. Closed it back up and swapped the grips out to the hogue bantom grips (love speedloader clearance). Panted the front sight white, then blazing orange. I took some photos with my phone (sucks). Tomorrow will be checking accuracy with 158gn loads and bobbing the hammer. the SN: BBF76X, anyone know the year of production.
Thanks for looking. I will get better photos soon.

Looks good. Got the box also=good. The 3" M64 is my favorite of all. Just feels right in the hand. Enjoy it.

Nice find. Since you have the box, you have the ship date - look at the Special Order number, the first digit is the year and the others indicate the day of that year it shipped. I would guess it starts with an 8 and the other digits are somewhere in the 200s?

Thanks guys, I am still a Smith and Wesson newbie. Will bobbing the hammer hurt the value even if done correctly DAO conversion, or should I buy a bobbed SS hammer and fit it. I'm not a gun newbie just Smiths. I don't think this gun is really collectable just people like it because it's a short barrel with full length guild rod.

I have my 3" 64 at the Factory as we speak. Requested a hammer bob and conversion to DAO, plus a few other mods. I plan on using the 64 as my off duty carry. I just received my Lobo enhanced pancake for it. (great holster). Of all the guns I own nothing feels as "right" in my hand as that 3" K frame. I wouldn't worry about value. Set the gun up to suit your needs.
On a side note, Numrich does offer the bobbed hammers. I was on the phone this week with them for another matter and asked about the bobbed hammer assy. They are currently out of stock. The rep said to check back periodically as they are always getting new parts back in inventory

Congrats on the purchase! I lucked into a good on a 64-5 3" a few weeks back. I think the 3" barrel is just right.

Thanks guys,
I too am going to carry it as my off duty ccw along with my 438 that I got a few weeks ago. I just need to find POA/POI first and order some ammo. We can carry whatever we want (hollow point), so I may try some of the 158 +P buffalo Bore stuff and the Speer 135grn short barrel and see how she shoots. I will just do the bob job myself tomorrow, I have done enough 1911 mods the bob job should not be to much of a hassle. I also purchased a model 64, 4inch DAO, a week ago and should be here soon, another gun broker deal. I'm going to mod that one for SSR for IDPA since no one shoots ESR or SSR here. On another note, I wish I handled more Smiths when I was younger. My father was a Ruger guy so that's all I knew. When I got the 438 as a backup, I really could not believe how much quality of work was in the gun that Smith makes. I have really missed out. I have found my new hobby with Smith revolvers

You have started down the slippery slope, my friend - a show of hands from all those who started with those exact words .
