Default Need advice on wood grips for my 686s - Large Hands

I have a 686 -4 4" and a 686 -6 6" and want to replace the rubber with wood. I like the finger grooves in the Hogues and would like to get similar woods. I have a large hand and would like to get a grip that will feel comfortable. I need something on the wider side. Thanks and here are a couple pictures.

I wear an XL glove and find the wood finger groove Hogues to be quite comfortable. I also use Ahrends Tactical and retro-target grips plus a couple pairs of the expensive S&W finger groove combat stocks which were on guns when purchased.

Guys with large hands would benefit from custom stocks that add some wood over the backstrap and are thickened with deep palm swell. Finger grooves need to be sized for your actual fingers, not just cut in some one-scallop-fits-all basis. I am also coming to believe that some of the Fuzzy Farrant style stocks that mount on revolvers the wide, straight stocks that imitate the shape and feel of semi-auto stocks have a lot going for them.

I think you just need to explore the options of off-the-shelf stocks, and if they don't work you should start talking to a custom grip maker. Good luck.

Herrett's and Hogues are fine recommendations for new wood. You might also look at the Jerry Miculek grips offered by "Bang Products", and sold through the Dillion catalog http://www.dillonprecision.com/conte...rchVar=miculek

I found the Miculek grips just a tad large on a M28 Highway Patrolman - but then again, I'm a K/L frame kinda guy, and the M28 was unwieldy to begin with. They install just like Hogue's do, and look great on a gun.

You might give Jim Badger a call. He will take a few measurments of your hand from you over the phone, & make you a set of finger groove grippers - that fit. Heck of a nice guy, too!

Here is a pic of a "satin" finished set, on my old 624.
