Default 627 pro series won't shoot

So I received my 627 pro series yesterday that was purchased off gun broker from a large supposedly reputable gun dealer. The 627 is looks like new but was sold as a used gun. When I took it to the range and loaded her up and began to shoot [single action] I had a misfire on the 7th of 8 shots. After a reload using the moon clip it only fired 2 of 8. I tried 3 different brands of ammo to be sure that wasn't the problem. Same results. Only 2 or 3 of the 8 any time. I called up the gun shop and the guy didn't give me much satisfaction. he said he might call smith & Wesson but it sounded more like I was out of luck and it wasn't his problem. I called smith & Wesson myself & they said send it to them to look at that it might be a couple hundred dollars depending on what's wrong with it. I'm for sure no gunsmith I just love shooting [11 s&w's] but was wondering if you guys had an idea what is going on and could help me with a quick fix?

Is the 627 capable of firing WITHOUT the moon clips?

If so, maybe try it without them, and see if it functions that way?
(bear in mind, I'm a teacher, not a gunsmith!!)

The 627 will fire with or without moon clips.

Have you checked the strain screw? Remove the stocks, and you will find a screw on the front of the grip frame. Ensure it is tightened all the way. The trigger pull will get heavier, but that same spring drives the hammer forward. You could also try using ammunition with softer primer caps. Federal primers are reputed to have softer primers.

If the strain screw is tightened all the way, the previous owner could have removed it, filed it shorter, and replaced it. Some shooters will do that to lighten the trigger pull.

It won't fire any more often with or without moon clips. I did take the grips off as nawilson had suggested to check the strain screw. It was tight but small parts started falling out of the black factory grips. I think I'm in trouble.

I cannot imagine what "small parts" started falling out of the black factory grips.

It might help if you posted pictures.

Call Jim Rae at S&W's Performance Center. Tell them what is going on. Don't over talk it - they don't need to know how you got it - just tell them you bought it from a gun retailer and that it did this the first time you fired it. Be sure when you send it in that you send all of the small parts that you say came out of the grips.

Also, you might tell them while it is there that you want them to install the standard factory mainspring instead of the "bossed" mainspring and a standard length strain screw and the extra travel length firing pin. Tell them you are more concerned about reliable ignition than weight of trigger pull.

Be sure to put all of this in a letter when you send it in to S&W. Be sure you letter gives them your shipping address and your day time telephone number. Keep a record of your serial number and your shipping receipt so that you can track your shipment and know when S&W receives it. When you call after it arrives, you will need to give them your serial number so they can track it within the factory to the specific technician who is working on your gun in case you have questions.

Now that you have mentioned small parts falling out of the grip, I'd say that you need to lay the whole thing out on a table, photograph the gun and the parts that fell out; and post the photo in this thread. We can probably be of help if you will do that.

Well, S&W will make it right and with luck it will be something easily fixed. The 627 Pro is one of the best revolvers in the world. This will turn out OK for you.
