Default Cant find S&W 686

I cant seem to find the S&W 686 P 4 inch barrel 7 shot revolver. I have called every gun shop in a 50 mile radius and none of them have it and none of them will order one for me. Is anyone else having this problem? I dont understand. Im willing to give them money if they order what I want, but they wont do it.

I went into "Bob's Gun Shop" in Norfolk today asking if they could special order it for me and the guy behind the counter told me its "never gonna happen". He said it could be like 9 months before they get stock in. Are you serious? And then odds are they will get a limited supply in, they wont call me, and when I go in to check if they have em they wont...

Why is this particular revolver so hard to find? I mean im not trying to find rare guns here. These firearms are still in production. I wont buy any other model or settle for any other barrel length.

Has to be a 686 P 7 shot 4 inch barrel.

If anyone stays in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia and knows of a gun shop selling this firearm, please email me the store name so I can give them a call.

Check out the following link and give them a call.

Handguns | Pistols | Revolvers | Guns | Firearms

They aren't real good about keeping their inventory current on their web site and I believe a saw a 4 inch 686 + TALO edition in their showcase when I was in last Sunday. If they have one they'll be perfectly willing to arrange a sale and transfer to a FFL local to you. However, I will warn you that you won't get a bargain basement price, IIRC they had the 686 I saw tagged for 869.00.

As for why nobody will take orders right now, it is because all the distributor's have basically sold out of everything except muzzle loaders and shotguns. Since the manufacturers won't tell their distributors when an item will ship they can't pass that on to the dealers. As a result most dealers won't order any firearm that isn't currently in stock at one of the distributors. Because it's quite likely you could be left hanging for a full year or two and that generates a lot of ticked off customers.

BTW, I just checked the handgun inventory at Sports South, one of the larger distributors. Out of 195 different models of S&W handguns they carry there was exactly ZERO handguns in their inventory. I suspect if I checked for long guns I would find the same thing. To put it simply, the warehouses nationwide have nothing on their shelves except for dust. If you want any handgun right now you'll have to put in some effort and start calling gun shops where ever you can think of. Because the only way to find a specific model is find one sitting in the display case of a gun shop.

Two dealers told me a few weeks ago that several gun manufacturers, Smith & Wesson among them, are refusing new orders from their distributors, citing a FOUR-YEAR backlog!

There always are nice used ones out there.

This is the second time I've heard this. But I really question if it's true. Dealers are wrong as much as they are right.
