Default 17-8 Performance Center Heritage Series

Here is another one I have not seen in person before so I called S&W customer service and found out why. They only made 165 of these six shot guns. I believe this one has not been shot outside the factory although the action has been worked. Product code 170198. Enjoy.

Too bad....
You'll find out soon, mine is one of the straightest most accurate K22's I've ever had the pleasure to shoot.

Enjoy your new toy.

Very nice! What is the approximate year it was manufactured?

The majority of the Heritage line were made in the 2000/2001 timeframe.

That's a beauty! You know, we want to know how it shoots. Is it my immagination, or does the gas ring look different?

This one was made in 2001. I have a bunch of Super X ready for it.

Very nice! I just got a "Heritage" 24-5 last month, and can't wait for spring to finally arrive to put a few rounds through her. Those Heritage guns are really finely made, and in such ridiculously low numbers that I think they're real sleepers as far as investments go. The only gripe I had with the 24-5 was the retro round butt grips...they look and act fine on a K frame like yours, but on a 6.5" N frame, well....kind of like Brian Urlacher in a pair of ballet slippers. I modified a nice pair of custom target cokes I had by crafting a nearly matching wooden filler to fill the RB "gap", so now it has the proper square butt "look". Those beautiful magnas are now resting in the box...

Kim Arhends makes a rb to sb conversion that I like on mine. I bought a 29 & 24 Heritage Series while they were "sleeping", passed on a 45 Colt twice - both under $900 & now regret it. I would get a .22 too if I could find one locally for a good price.

I just don't understand why a 6" tapered bbl 44 mag wasn't more popular: weight & balance of a 4" bbl with the sight radius of a 6" bbl. It's a neat gun.

Now I'll ask the question. What should one pay for the little .22? I hope I didn't get in too deep on this one. It may be a while before value catches up with cost. I'll tell the truth after I hear some opinions. Thanks.

At the NE Ohio bunch there was one with the case colored frame for 1800 unfired. I would expect to pay 750-900 for one in nice shape. NIB, maybe one grand. Over the years everyone claims they shoot great. Have you shot yours yet? Larry

Well Larry, I feel OK about my $700 OTD on this one. I'm usually at my local range twice a week but for some reason I've been too busy to get there this week, and I'm going on a road trip this week with a buddy. Looks like it's next week to try it out. Thanks for the info.

OK, we're waiting for this road trip to end so we can get a range report. Hope you have a lot of ammo for the .22, its hard to find. I'm working at the LGS on Sat's for some extra gun money and a lot of ammo is sold out. Larry

Default Range Report/17-8

Well, I finally got the Heritage Series 17-8 to the range and it shoots like a dream. Very accurate and a great trigger. I guess I should have brought my rest to see just how accurate it is, and I will do that soon, but I must say that it is much more accurate than what I am capable of. It caused a bit of a stir at the range today, as no one had actually seen one of these gems before.

I think $700 is a steal, considering that's about what a clean run-of-the-mill K-22 or M17 goes for these days.
