.32 & 327 After the Gold Rush! Thoughts?
I am pretty sold on the S&W 632 Carry Comp. I like the fact that especially in this ammo shortage, I have a large selection of calibers that will work in this gun and I should be able to find something...
Forgetting about the shortage for a second, when ammo comes back, are .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Mag. and .327 Federal Mag. normally a difficult item to find? Do they tend to be more expensive?
I just love this gun. I can't hold a full size like a 686 and thought this is the perfect middle ground. I just don't want to get stuck with something I can't shoot even after bullets come back!
Thoughts?

My wife's CCW piece is a Colt Detective Special in .32 S&W Long. We can usually find a couple of boxes of ammo at our LGS. The usual offerings are RN lead; not much available for self-defense type loads. Since it's not a big seller, prices are premium. Great cartridge. Accurate and fun to shoot. We'll start reloading our own soon. Sounds like yours has lots of options for ammo, so enjoy it.

There is enough of a vestige of the rim on a .32 ACP to catch on the ejector star of my 632 Pro (below) and permit reliable firing & ejection, making it a five ammo gun. Admittedly, the .32 ACP is like a pop gun, while the other end of the spectrum, the .327 Federal Magnums, mean business.
As to ammo availability, last weekend's AGCA gunshow in Birmingham had a good supply of .32 ACP, some .32 S&W, a bit more .32 S&WL, and a box of .32 H&RM - but I never saw any .327 Federal Magnum, save 100 bullet boxes of Hornady 100gr .312" XTP's for $21/box. I bought two for $40 to reload in some of my mixed .327 brass. As S&W already dropped the 632 Pro, and Taurus, Charter, and Ruger have dropped most of their such caliber, too - I don't expect .327 Federal Magnum ammo to be high on any ammo maker's priority anytime soon.

Are there a lot of weapons chambered for the .32? It's a new world for me.

The 32s (short, long, HRmag, 327) are cheap and easy to reload once you've built up your supply of brass.
Find a 32 you like, get it and go have fun with it.

The only one that normally seemed to be available (at a decent price) was the 32 S&W Long. I found it at Midway and other locations for reasonable prices. I haven't looked recently since the "craziness" began. I reload it a lot and it is very economical with cast bullets.

32 stuff is not that easy to find. The old 32 S&W is about impossible. 32 S&W Long is the easiest, but by size of the components is not all that cheap. 32 H&R mag is about impossible to find. Can't say about the 327 as I only had a 32 H&R mag a while back. Sold it cuase it was a single action and I just can't get into them.
I would say that online shopping is your best bet. Midayusa usually has 32 S&W Long in several flavors.

Thirty two long is easy and cheap to load for and so is 32 mag. I'm about to sell my 16-4 cause I had a custon .32 long built and really enjoy shooting it. Neat little round, very accurate. Larry

I just found some 20 round boxes of 327 magnum Gold Dots for $20, bought 5 boxes. The ammo is out there.

I thought that with the introduction of the 32 H&R and the 327 Magnum, interest in 32s would be rekindled. Since buying my 632 I can see why 32s were a favorite years ago, there's a lot to like with them.

32 acp is fairly easy to find, 32 S&W pretty rare in these parts, 32 Long & 32 H&R were in stock at many LGS in MT, many also had 327 Fed. I bought a few boxes of 327 50 rd packs, 115 gr jhp in 2011. The price ran $27 per 50, last Sept they were $26. Another point for the reloading of these wonderful cartridges. If 327 Fed goes away in 15 years, it will still shoot the H&R 7 32 Long. I don't see them disappearing, you can still buy brass and ammo for 357 max and 348 Winchester.

I bought 1000 rounds of StarLine 327 brass (plus a couple of hundred saved from firing once and 100 Federals purchased new & primed from Freedom Arms) and a selection of bullet moulds. I have 32 Pistol dies from Lyman, RCBS and I believe Lee that will load them. I don't care what "the Industry" does, I'll be shooting mine!!
