Default new 317-2 revolver 22LR no accuracy

Hello All, i have a new 317 airlite in 22LR, took it to the range and it shoots 4" high and 4" left at 25 feet, using many different brands of ammo. I know its a snubby but for $700 shouldnt it be a bit more accurate? I am not new to shooting, been doing it over 30 years and qualified expert in the Army. I'm a certified firearms instructor which is the only reason i bought this gun...did i waste my money?

Welcome (and sorry). Assuming the rear sight is centered and you're using a solid rest, it sounds like a warranty trip back to the factory. Hopefully they will not simply return it as "within specs". Please let us know how this turns out.

I have a 317 and it shoots to point of aim. Before shipping it back to S&W have someone else shoot it and see if they have the same results.

Thank you Alan, it has an integral rear sight channel so the sight picture and alignment is quite simple. I called S & W and they were a bit rude and said just send it back. I will let you know the outcome.

Hi Old Cop..i did exactly that and my buddy couldn't believe how far off it is. to hit center mass you have to aim 4" down and 4" right to hit the bullseye. I tried 3 different brands of ammo too with same result..so to feel better i drew my M&P 40 and destroyed the target....

Just curious, were you using any hyper velocity ammo? I had
a 317 that would not shoot anything except standard velocity
ammo. I sent my 317 back to S&W after having the cylinder
lock up after 3 or 4 rounds of the hot 22lr. They kept it for
5-6 weeks, and sent it back saying it was OK. I felt the
aluminum cylinder may have had something to do with the
problem, or maybe the tolerances were just tooo tight. I
solved the problem, the 317 now belongs to someone else.

Default Have a 2" and 3" 317

I have 2 317s and love both of them .The 2" I have has had the springs changed out for Wolf springs and it shoots pretty darn good. The 3" that I have has adj sights and still has the factory springs and after 1000 to 1500 rounds through it . It also shoots good the more you shoot them the better they get. Remember that they are extremely light and it takes some practice with them. I hope that you get yours worked out and don"t give up on the little 317 because they are a lot of fun. Good luck.

It should shoot better than that at 25 yards, let alone 25 feet. But, as others have suggested, I would definitely try more types of ammo. BTW, what kind of groups are you getting? I had a 357 LCR that shot 3" to the right at 20 yards. I sent it in for something else, and I told them it doesn't shoot point of aim. I thought they might laugh at me being it's a sub 2" barrel made for close range. But it came back shooting POA. So I don't think having S&W correct you situation is too much to ask. Please let us know how they take care of you. Best of luck.
