I know it's been sometime since I've posted, just been looking, but yesterday I picked up a beauty (IMHO). I've had my eye on it for weeks, but the dealer was asking a fortune for it.
I finally got him to budge on the price and it was mine.
I'm sorry I don't have pictures right know, but I will try to get to it.

A model 17-6 with a full ejector lug/shroud. It weighs a ton, but it feels absolutely fantastic with the stock Combat grips. A small amount of wear on the end of the barrel, but other than that, very nice finish.

I'm not sure, but I believe it's from the late '80's, early '90's. The serial number is BEE95*5. My someone out there could tell me.

2 minutes after I got home, I ran 12 through and it shoots like a dream. I know, getting nuts over a .22lr, but it's just dang beautiful.

Congrats on your full-lug 17-6...I've kept an eye out for a shooter in that model for some time. I finally ran across one at a LGS & traded for a 4" 17-6 last week.

Mine has wear on the end of the barrel from holster carry and a turn ring, but was well cared for. It had smooth target stocks (they look nice but are not original). I figure the prior owner sold the original combat stocks for the extra $ they bring. I haven't got around to shooting it yet but will soon.

My serial # BNT 8XXX dates to April of 1993 per a call to S&W.

I have a 17-6 with a 6" barrel, nickel finish, and some lazor engraving. Was one of the twelve revolver set made for Ellet Brothers in 1990. The S&W 17 is a really nice revolver.

Trust me any S&W revolver in 22cal is a dream to shoot. My loacl dealer has one in 22lr and another in 22 wmr for $850 each there brand new.

I was just out shooting mine today, wonderful little gun.

A 17 or 617 are revolver perfection in my book.

What I respect (have for many years) most about these, Smith made them with the same quality as if they were producing a model 29. The caliber makes zero differece. Mine is maybe 98-99%, but I don't own safe queens anymore. I buy 'em to shoot 'em.
Now that's changed with age. I figure someday my son will inherit firearms with personality.

No kidding! The price that people want for combat stocks is insane. I read your comment and looked on flea-bay and found $250 - $300 range.

I love 17's! Just picked up the below 17-4 (shipped 1978) and it shoots great. Now I want a 17 or 617 with a 6" and a 4" barrel.

I have a bunch of K-22's in various flavors and this one is one of my favorite shooters. I had a 6" also and didn't like the balance of it as much and sold it. There is a reason K-22's have been made and sold continously since 1931 or something.

I have a 17-5 in 4" that is my favorite 22lr. I bought it used with Pachmayr grips and now have target stocks on it. Mine was mfg in 1985 and I got it in '87. I also have a couple of Diamondbacks, a 4" and a 6", but the K-22 is my favorite shooter.

I am very late to this party, but thought I add my 10 cents. I was just at the Reno show and spotted a 6" 617 with box for $1800 I told the guy I had a 4" full lug 17-6 and, without hesitation, he offered me $1000 for it. I figured I better hang on to it, looks like they're pretty desirable. Plus it's a real hoot to shoot.

My 17-6 Nickel 6" is a beautiful gun and would be hard to part with. Even for $1,000.00. A 4" full lug 17 would be really nice to own. Would compliment the model 18 4".

That full under lug17-6 is awesome! I have never seen one in 4". I always figured all the full under lugs were 6" I just have a 4" 18-2 combat masterpiece that's a safe queen that I feel guilty about shooting because of its perfect blueing. Going to get a new 4" 617 and shoot the **** out of it hopefully this year.

My 18 4" is also a safe queen and feel guilty shooting. Only fired it at the range once and took hours to clean. Still looks new. Also bought a 617 ten shot several years ago to shoot, but still haven't.
