Original style stocks
A member sent me a set of S&W stocks that he thought might fit my Model 19-5. I told him I would give them a try and today they came in the mail. You guys who are in the know, are these of the same era as a 19-5 and would they have come on a 2.5" barrel. I think they are the correct style but I am not a expert on the S&W Model 19. I do like them though. I took more pictures but these two were the only ones that turned out worth a flip. Are they correct for the gun?

If I am not mistaken, that particular version of checkered round butt magna grips precedes your gun by a few dashes. The giveaway is the size of the checkered area. Your set of magnas has the largest checkered area seen on this style of grips. You may have to see a number of different sets to be able to see the difference in the size of the checkered area. I do not have a pic available of a set of magnas that is correct for your gun, but they are characterized by a slightly smaller area of checkering than is seen on this set.

Ok, thanks for the information. Depending on what he wants for these I may keep them until I stumble on the correct set. These look pretty good on the gun.

There are some differences in the size of the checkered fields on later magna stocks, but I don't think anyone's got it got it down to a science as far as correlating these changes with dates or dash numbers yet. If you do a Google search for S&W 19-5, you get a number of photos showing snub 19-5s wearing original magna stocks with both larger and smaller checkered areas. I'd say the ones you have are correct and wouldn't worry beyond that.
