Default S&W 637 Performance Center - Thoughts?

I've got the opportunity to pick up a 637 Performance Center, but I was not able to find much in the way of reviews using the search function on the board. It has had less than 25 round fired through it and comes with a few extras (nothing major). If I could get it for a little under $500, would it be worthwhile? I have never owned a PC revolver.

On the other hand, for the same money a pristine little old school Model 36 with the box and paperwork that is a real beauty. I'm a little bit torn. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated.

I'd go for the M36, but I'm an old school revolver guy.

Is the 637 marked Performance Center or is it one of the Davidson's guns listed as Smith & Wesson/Performance Center with no PC marking on the gun itself?
If it's the latter I will post more info.

It appears to have the PC seal on the sideplate (I was not provided with a great photo). It also has the PC grips with the seal.

If it's a real PC gun in that condition I would jump on it. I don't remember seeing one sell for that.

My comments reflect only bias between the two models with no consideration to dollar value.

I carried a 36 for many years and a few years back bought my wife a 637. I much prefer the 36. It just feels like a Smith & Wesson.

Grain of salt......

I'd be tempted to get the 36 just because it's a cool old school snubby.
The 637 is about 4 or 5 ounces lighter than the 36 so it'd be a little easier to carry and if you intend to carry it then that's a factor worth considering. That said the 36 can be easily carried with the proper holster and belt. Plus it's a cool old school snubby.

I like the old 36s too. I pocket carry so I usually have the 637 with me.

My 36

Hello, I am a new member but have been reading these threads for years.

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would chime in. I picked up a new 637 Performance Center "Enhanced Action" for $449 a few weeks ago. Thanks to my recent discovery and new addiction to Performance Center guns I could not resist.

At first I didnt see much difference between this snubbie and others but after about 50-75 rounds I could tell a huge difference. I guess it took a little to break it in. This is by far the smoothest gun I have ever owned. I will post some photos at some point but for those who are considering this gun I highly recommend it.

As far as how much different it is from a non-PC gun, I am not sure. For $50 more than the standard 637... I dont think you will regret it.
