Case Colored Ignition Parts In Stainless Gun?
Anybody have pics of a stainless gun with case colored hammer and trigger? Did Smith ever make this configuration?

Back when they were still flash chroming hammers and triggers for the normal stainless revolvers, they made a run of 686s in "Midnight Black" or "Black Magic" or something like that. They came with case hardened hammers and triggers.
Later, all stainless revolvers, except some Performance Center guns and I think the 619 and 620s came with case hardened hammers and triggers instead of the flash chromed hammers and triggers.
The S&W catalog on their web site is replete with pictures of their models in this configuration.

I don't know the cutoff date or number, but the early model 60's had the case hardened hammer & trigger.

I have a 66-4, 686-0, 686-4 and 629-3 with color-casehardened parts. In addition, I've upgraded several other stainless S&Ws with color-casehardened target triggers and hammers. To me, those parts have higher quality look. Others will surely disagree.

I like a CCH'd hammer & trigger whether on a blue revolver or a nickel or stainless one. I have two 1980's model 60's, both of which have the flash-chromed parts, but I don't esp like the way they look with them.

No pics, but my 65-5 came from the factory with case colored trigger and hammer. I prefer the look of flash chromed however.

I knew a cop in the '90's, a devout fan of Smith revolvers, who upon buying a stainless one would immediately replace all the internal parts with CH carbon steel. He believed they worked much more smoothly, with less wear-in time to become really silky.

I would say 3 1/2-4 lbs, possibly a little less. I read a test report on a new "classic" Model 14, it was 5.9, seemed heavy and not the norm. I don't know what range is acceptable at the factory.

Yes, my 686 no dash has a case colored .500" target trigger with a Flash Chromed hammer.

hammer back on mine, on target, all you have to do is breath on it! It def has an action job on it by someone, but it's not a shooter, but dang that trigger is smooth.
now back to the subject....
