S&W K frame round butt Combat Stocks
Help me out here..Got these recently unopened in mint factory packaging. Smooth Goncalo Alves with medallions and screw. They have very nice figure. Any idea of possible dating on these. I know they may be marked on the inside but afraid to open them. Are these still being produced? Rare or still fairly common? Part# is 165320000. A couple of pics..Thanks for any help..

RB Combats
They are not rare at my place! Seriously, congrats. You have a good find there with a pair still in the package. Date will be tough because they are not labeled. Grips offered on pistols from the factory are labeled with the last three digits of the serial number. But, I opened my J-frame combats that were also new in the package and they had no markings on the backside. They are not offered by S&W anymore and ones still new in the package are rarer. Ebay often lists used ones and most go for $200+. I would not take less than $300 for the set I have. But, I am waiting for just the right revolver to break them open. It would have to be a PC gun or something close for an event like that. The ones you have are exceptional grain and figure. Great job on snagging some awesome S&W grips.

Back when they were "current" I put them on about every K-frame I owned, especially the square butt examples. Gradually as I have sold or traded off the guns I was actively shooting at that time I have let almost all of them go. I know I have a square butt set on Project 616, but I think my last round butt set went with a 3" Model 64 I foolishly sold about 4 years ago. More's the pity 'cause those are the most comfortable grips in my hand that S&W ever made... I have to go custom to get anywhere close! Congrats on a nice find.

Very, very nice stocks. I have a couple for the N frame but none for the K. I find them pretty to look at, but not to shoot with. They just don't fit my hand.
I would date your sets to the early to mid 1980s based on clues from the packaging. The package lists the models that they fit; 10, 19, 64, 66 and 547. All K frames. No L frames are listed. The L frames came out in '84 or '85 so the package apprears earlier than that. Also note that left side stock has the full speed loader cut out which is a feature from about that time. Check out the back side of the package and see if there are any tell-tale printing dates there.
Hope this helps.

Very nice set of K frame round butt combat grips. I would hang on to them if I were you. I have seen them go for $250-$300. I have a S&W Nickel M19-4 that I bought in 1980-81 and bought a set of the S&W combat grips at the same time #165320000 like you have pictured. I still have the package and they were $33.00 at that time. I will try to post a couple of pictures. They really make a nickel gun look good and they have always fit my hand better than most grips.

I'm in the same boat with these square butt combats. I need to find the right gun in order to open them.

The L frames actually appeared in 1980 with the 586.
