Default 3-5-7 Talo Edition 686....?

Shopping for a new revolver here, something with a minimum barrel length of 6", and no more than 7.5".....

The S&W 686 is one of a couple at the top of my list, I prefer a 6 shot model since I already have several HKS speed loaders for my GP-100 that also fits the 686 6 shot revolver....

At this time there are none to be found in my area, however one gun shop not too far from here has one Talo 3-5-7 series 686 7 shot with a 7" barrel.....

Can anyone tell me anything good or bad about these special edition revolvers......???

I have the 5'' version. Only difference from standard production 686+ s is the unfluted cylinder, barrel lengths and the custom grips. Mine shoots very well. LGS by me has a 7'' NIB for $729.

Unfluted cylinders are not tactically sound as the flutes help you to speed load without looking at the cylinder or in the dark (talk to Clint Smith about this). In addition, to me a revolver without cylinder flutes just does not look finished.

My 4" GP-100 serves my home defense / tactical needs, I'm looking for a target revolver, something I'll be using in handgun matches at our range, all shot in daylight, so the unfluted cylinder isn't a real drawl back for me, the 7 round capacity is actually more of a drawl back, but I'm sure I could work around that with a little practice.

I've never had a distributor's special S&W before, and was wondering if they get any special attention to detail, fit & finish, or trigger work......?

Default 3-5-7

I also have the 5" version. Mine really seemed to be a step above the regular production Smith coming out at the time.
The cylinder flute v. unflute issue is a tough one. I kind of like the unfluted cylinder on the 5" because it really makes it look different. On the other hand, I love the look of my regular 3" 686 with the fluted cylinder.

I guess its really just personal preference. I can say that the 5" shoots really really well and balances great. It makes shooting .357 almost pleasant.
