S&W 625 sight issue
I have a 625-7 in 45 Colt.
When shooting 250 gr lead RNFP cast bullets over 8.0 grains of unique, the gun shoots about 3-4" high at 15 yards. I have the rear sight bottomed out.
What can I do to get these sights to print where the gun shoots?
I do intend to shoot some 8.5 and 9,0 grains of Unique loads and I presume they would further exacerbate the problem.
Help please.
Thanks

That's my standard load. I wouldn't worry about 3-4" high at 15 yards. Are you holding at 6 o'clock or centered on the bullseye? Are you shooting from a rest (supported)? Have you let someone else shoot the gun? Hotter loads may print lower for you.

625 sight issue
Thanks Texagun.
I did have the barrel supported on a pretty solid rest and wondered after I left the range if that might be the issue.
I will chheck into your suggestions.

There can also be a big change in point of impact depending on how strong a grip you use. Some folks let up on the grip strength when they are at the bench.

First, you do NOT want to rest the barrel of your revolver when shooting from a rest. While it is steadier it also impedes the natural "ring" of the barrel and will double or triple your group sizes.
Note, there are a couple of exceptions to this rule but it's the exceptions that tend to prove the rule. One exception is the 617 due to the extremely heavy barrel for the caliber. The other exceptions are the revolvers that feature tensioned barrels such as the 620 or M&P R8 because the barrel shroud isolates the actual barrel tube from that rest.
I've found the best method for shooting a revolver such as the 625 from a rest is to hold it in a normal 2 handed grip and simply rest the heels of my hands on the rest. While it's not as steady as supporting the barrel I've found it to produce the best groupings. A secondary benefit of shooting this way is that I can use my normal recoil management methods and follow through in the same manner as shooting from a free standing position. I suspect that a lot of the reason for your shooting high is that you are not managing the recoil as fully as you would when shooting without a rest.
Finally, odd as it may seem, lighter loads will typically print higher that a stronger charge. The cause for this is the reduced speed of the bullet, it allows the bullet to remain in the barrel for a slightly longer period of time as the gun recoils. Don't be surprised if you see your point of impact drop slightly when you use a heavier charge.

df06,
Unfortunately, that's perfectly normal for the S&W N Frames in .45 Colt. My 25-5 shoots high as well, but that's why they created the six o'clock hold.

Why not simply install a taller front blade?
The SS guns are pinned with a "half moon" dovetail. Pretty simple fix.

You could get a shorter rear sight leaf, or a taller front blade.

625 vsight issue
I really appreciate all the advice.
It will be 10 or so days before I can shoot again, but I will try not supporting the barrel, a hotter load and see what happens.
Those failing I may get a taller front sight.
If all else fails, I could scope it.
I have a 629 that is scoped and it is scary accurate.

I have the 25-7 and it shoots high as well with the rear sight bottomed out, with factory loads. Lighter bullets with higher velocity should bring the point of impact down if I want to experiment. For now, I will just let the groups be high!
