Default Model 10-8 added

I bought a beauty of a used 617-6 10 shot the other day that included a Weaver scope mount. Went out to find an optic for it today for playing around. I walked past the used case and saw a near perfect 10-8 (AHZ8XXX SN) 4" square butt for about what Bud's is selling their fair condition trade ins.

Here is the 617, for people who need to see pictures of everything

It sports a pair of Ebony target grips that I bought by accident on eBay (didn't realize they were round butt).

My gun safe is starting to be a class place.

In case I didn't mention it, I spent my 617 scope money on the 10-8.

I think that was a good choice. The scope is probably still being made!
Congratulations!

I figured a $300 scope/red dot/whatever wouldn't be worth much in a few years, where as this gun will always be more valuable (to me at least) than what I paid.

I agree 110%! The Smith you bought without the lock isn't being make anymore & probably never will be. The scope??? You can probably buy one of those any day?
I think that was money well spent!
Let us know how well it shoots.

I took it all apart and cleaned it up. It was bathed in oil, but it can't have been shot OR carried much at all. I am confident that its factory bluing, but I'm confused by some greenish staining on the inside faces of the magna grips. It's almost like they were exposed to dark blue/green food coloring.

I think the finish is original because there is almost no visible wear on any of the internal parts, and no signs of a kitchen table action job. There is slight wear on each side of the muzzle end of the barrel, and one spot of missing bluing about the size of a head of a pin on the back strap. Given the mechanical condition, I doubt the factory finish could have worn through enough to warrant a refinish, then be worn down again slightly without anything else receiving any wear.

This gun lived in a night stand, then got a vigorous lube job before it was traded in for something modern.
