Default Smith and Wesson holster

Found this S&W holster. Its numbered "21 32" below the logo. I think it was made for a 2" - 2 1/2" barrel. Not sure when it was made. I tried my 3" 686+ and it seemed to fit OK without too much effort. The end of the barrel is about 3/8" above the bottom - the front sight seems pretty tight at that point. The strap fits nice around the hammer. So according to the grainy iPhone photos - does it look like it fits alright? Can anyone tell maybe a history on this holster? Thanks

looks something like the holster that came with my M58.I don't know if it was used as a duty holster, but my gun looks like it could have been used as a service revolver.

The holster looks almost identical - except it's for a 4" N frame. So probably late 60s through mid 70s for the time it was produced? Definitely looks like a service holster.

So is the 3" pushing it as far as fit? Kind of like wearing a tight t shirt
