If you had 1,000 Bucks??
Easy question, if you had 1,000 dollars to spend on the ultimate concealed carry revolver, what would you choose?
Please include barrel length, caliber, and leather.

If I had a$1000.00 to spend on a CCW revolver I would chose one of the following:
1. S&W 640 pro series in .357 magnum with moon clips and night sights
2. S&W 642 1 1/8" pro series with moon clips .38 special
3. S&W 686-1,2,3,4, with 2.5" barrel .357
4. S&W 627 UDR with 2.5" barrel .357 mag
5. S&W 625 with 3" barrel .45acp

A K frame 38 special, in stainless steel, with a round butt and a 3" barrel, with adjustable sights.
I'm not sure if that exists, but I sure hope so!

I guess that 625 with a 3" barrel is a unicorn gun.
I would love to find one, that looks just right.

625 - 4" Barrel.
Big bore performance without the magnum punishment. Smooooth, accurate and built like a tank.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and I just wanted to say hi. I was looking at this thread and I have been debating on few for myself. Currently in the runnings:
1. S&W M&P340 w/ Galco IWB Holster
Pros: DA Only w/ internal Hammer, .38+P, Very Lightweight
2. Ruger LCR-LG w/ Desantis Pocket Holster
Pros: Very Concealable, .38+P, Comes with Crimsion Trace Grips
3. S&W M&P360 Chief Special w/ Single Shoulder Inverted Holster
Pros: Sometime hearing the sound of a hammer cock back is all you need
All have 2" barrels

Well Here is your Unicorn! 625 of 1988 with 3" barrel , custom night sights, trigger job, custom Grasshorn grips and a few other custom things on it. I have carried this as my alternate duty/off duty gun and back up gun for the past 9 years. I can not carry it on duty anymore due to the policy changes at my agency.

586 or 686 + 3" 357mag . Holsters are just too subjective & I think we all go through at least a few before we find something we really like . If you can live w/o the 7th round , IMHO a M13 or M65 3" ( or two ) would work .

I like your list. But I would recommend few changes. 1) the LCR should be the 357. The extra 4 oz help with recoil, but it's still plenty light. 2) I wouldn't put the CT on the LCR (due to shooting comfort), I would instead go with tritium sights 3) I wouldn't go with anything with an exposed hammer if there was any chance of ever pocket carrying.
My EDC is the 357 LCR. It'll shoot sub-3" groups (sometimes sub 2.5" groups) at 20 yards. And it's reliable. I rarely shoot 357s in it as it beats the p**s out of me when I do. It would be better with night sights though.

I would spend about $400 on another 442 and keep the rest. I might consider a Detective Special for $600-700 and pocket the rest.

I've been on a waiting list at my local shop for one of these for quite some time. The only reason I haven't purchase one off of gunbroker is because I am getting a smoking deal locally.

Guess I misunderstood. I thought the grand would be for something I did not already have or does not exist. Oh well. So here goes:
Custom Model 65, SB AND RB, 2" bbl.
Rig: Bianchi pocket suede IWB pouch
The late 'smith Andy Cannon used to make these up, he did great work, I'm told, on 'street' revolvers.

That seems to work very well in the movies and on TV, but do not ever try that in a real life-and-death situation. The reasons should be obvious.

Crankin Bass, Jack said "You can pay $1000 but you don`t need to" which I have recently found to be true. Had my heart set on pre lock pre mim pre machined cylinder stop 686. Knew they went for about $800 or more here in MA. Kept hunting til I saw one on line and drove straight to the shop. 686-3 2.5 barrel with uber desirable finger groove combats, $675.75 out the door. Realized he over charged because agreed on $590 before taxes. Went back and got 4 speed loaders for the difference. Moral of my long winded story is if you have a grand laying around for another toy shop shop shop around your thousand dollar gun may cost you a lot less. Joe Mac p.s. my vote is for a 686 pre lock what ever you spend on it.

I do agree the LCR in .357 is a good choice, but personally when I've fire a .357 in rapid succession, I tend to lose accuracy quicker. Truthfully it's a tough call to weigh stopping power vs target placement. I am also partial to hot load .38 so its a toss up. I also agree an exposed hammer in a pocket holster is a bad idea but for the Chief I would be rocking an inverted shoulder holster. I wear button ups majority of the time so it wouldn't be hard to conceal and I do like the ability to cycle a cylinder without unhousing it. In my old Rossi .38 I ran 2 pepper rounds with 3 FTX Crit. Defense's. Sounds weird I know but in the woods with boar, a pepper round will do you more good than a .44 mag will. :P

I have at least 3 carry pieces depending on dress, activity etc
the one that works almost always is an M&p 340 I bought used for 600$, in a Lobo Gunleather Clip on IWB holster made out of horsehide, for less than 100$, use the rest for ammo, or save up for another gun.

I would get a matched set of vintage pinned-barrel model 36, 37, and 60 Chief Specials, and carry each of the two days a week....and all three on sunday! Plus a few good holsters. That'd probably run closer to $1500 than 1000 when the dust settles, but what the hell.
In reality, I already have holsters and a pair each of 36's & 60's- what I need now is a nice 37 airweight Chief. Bob the hammer & slick up the action a bit and I'd be good to go for less than $500.

That's probably going to be about what I have tied up in a custom that's being built right now, especially if I get the Milt Sparks PMK I'm considering.
It's a 681 I bought with this in mind. My gun smith has shortened it to 3" and given it a round butt. He's also converted it to DA only, bobed the hammer and smoothed the narrow trigger for DA work. Fixed rear notch will be widened and deeper than it came from the factory and the front will be replaced by a Novak Mega Dot Tritium sight. The whole thing will be fine bead blasted and will come home wearing Hogue Bantam grips which fit my hand perfectly.
Where do I sign up for that $1000 to reimburse the checking account? (smile)
Dave

Three inch 696 with either a C&S Extreme Duty Fixed Rear Sight or D&L fixed rear sight. Buy ammo with any funds left over.

Hey Pharmer! Cool gun. Those grips are from Sile, with fiberglass inserts instead of metal like Pachs. Superior because they weigh much less. How long have you had them?

K49, I bought 6 pair from CDNN I want to say 4 years back (probably 10). Most folks that try em like em. So I have 3 pair left. I think I paid $6, should have cleaned them out. Joe

The only problem is finding a three inch M625 for under a $1000. That is rarer than one with a unicorn horn on it.

That's why the 357 LCR is so nice. You can load those hot 38s and you'll have no issues. And it's still only 17oz. Like I said earlier, I don't shoot many 357s out of mine.
BTW, if I had $1000, I'd probably buy a 3" 686. But I don't really think that's the ultimate CCW. I just want one.

I like to carry my CC revolver in my front pocket. So I'd go with this 642-1 pro-series cut for moonclips. If I was packing IWB and/or wanted something hotter, I'd go with this 60-9 in a Galco tuc-n-go so I can tuck my shirt over it. Those are hogue bantam grips on the 60-9.

The LCR is fine with or without the laser.
It's hard to beat for a pure pocket rocket and has an awesome trigger as well.

Actually I don't carry a revolver for concealed carry except for those 100 degree days when it's shorts and tee shirt time and then I have a S&W Model 36 somewhere on me. The rest of the time I carry a $500 Sig P228 with 16 rounds of 9mm hollow points on me.

The Ruger LCR gets a lot of love these days and what is surprising to me is that so many like it's trigger.
To me the LCR trigger is a particularly vile flavor of "yuck!" It has all the hideous feel and over-travel of my Arrow stapler that is used to put up targets at the range.
There is just no accounting for taste.
A 3-inch Model 13 or Model 65 would just about top the list and there would be a goodly amount of cash left over if you shopped patiently.

I own 4 of my 5 choices that fit your criteria. A 640 pro, a pair of 3" 624's, one blued, one nickel, 3" 386SC and a 3" 29.
I would love to add a 3" 625, but the 45 Colt variety. I'd trade any of the above except the nickel 24 for one. I'm still chasing it....maybe one day.

That's because the trigger is smooth with no stack up in pull weight. It breaks clean immediately after the cylinder locks up and I can distinctly squeeze off shots and know when the trigger breaks.
At least on my LCR that is.
It was designed as a pocket revolver from the ground up. No hammer to snag, no opening for dirt or lint to enter, excellent grip angle and material to cushion recoil, good sights and a smooth functional trigger.
It's hard for a modded or regular "J" frame to compete against.

Some people just don't want to like the LCR. Some because it's part "plastic" and some because it's not a Smith. But I've been shooting revolvers for several decades now and I love the triggers on my Smiths. But none of them is as smooth as my LCR. None of them is nicer than my LCR. I would say, even most of the haters don't complain about the trigger. Ninety-nine percent (plus) rave about the trigger. In that regard you are in the extreme minority. I guess not everyone has your super sophisticated "tastes"?

I'm eccentric that way.
I've examined several and have shot one. I didn't like it at all. I didn't like it because of its trigger which is notably inferior to every Smith & Wesson I've owned since the mid-1970s. I don't like it because I don't like plastic as a component of a firearm.
Folks seem to think feel that one is required to like the LCR and Ruger in general. I don't even think it is a particularly good product. It's ok not to like the LCR and it's ok to say so on forums. I wouldn't be willing to invest even a part of 1000 bucks in acquiring the first one for self-defense use. There are better revolvers.

I just traded my LCR-22 for a M67 no dash. I hated the LCR trigger and calling it an Arrow stapler is an insult to the Arrow. It's more like a Swingline.
The transfer bar rattle was another great innovation.

When I carry a revolver concealed, it is when I am in very rural or woods areas and it is a .44 magnum. My 4" 29-2 is what I carry. If I was going to buy a new one, I would look at the Performance Center 4" 629, but that is way over the $1,000.00 budget.

Well its not a conceal/carry gun, but I'd get a Model 29-2, 6". Then I'd sit and watch every Dirty Harry movie.

The 22LCR trigger is nothing like the centerfire trigger.
