Default S&W Model 19-6

Looking for the for the birthday of a pistol that has been sitting in my safe for a couple of years now. Its a 19-6 and the serial number is BHL94XX. Does the BHL prefix mean anything or is this a standard prefix? The grips are original to the gun and are stamped "Sept 4, 1981". I didn't think that S&W stamped dates like this. Any information or thoughts are appreciated, thanks.

It's a standard prefix from about the date stamped on the stocks (summer 1981), so the stocks and gun were likely produced very close to each other. This stamping was used for a few years around that time. Enjoy!

I believe that the 19-4 was produced during 1981 and the 19-6 was first produced in 1988 so, I doubt that the grips are original to the gun. However, S&W could have installed an older set of grips on a later gun for all I know. Date stamps were common on S&W grips. Experts please correct me if I am incorrect.
