Default New model 617

I have looked at three new 617's.
On all of them the cylinders can be moved(rotational) at lock up.
If you pull the trigger and let the hammer fall holding the trigger back it makes no difference. The amount of free play varies between the guns.
Is this by design allowing the bullet to center the cylinder?
My 17 no dash locks up tight.
I have a deposit on a 17-4 which is only $100 less than the new guns. Don't know which one I want.( both but a wedding prevails)
It is hard to pay big money for a new gun with slop in the lock mechanism.
Can anyone speak to this?

Thanks

Frank

Well for my 2 cents. I have never owned a revolver that locked to the point of no perceptible movement. My current GP100 is the tightest I've seen. My 17-6 has rotational movement but I'm not able to measure it however it is quite accurate. My opinion on your choice would hands down be the 17-4. But that's just my preference. I'd bet you would love either one. Oh and congrats on your upcoming wedding.

I agree with Dave. However, I prefer the older S&W offerings to the new ones. It seems to me that over the years cost cutting and mass production techniques have taken precedence over craftsmanship and quality. Buy the 17-4 and you will be happy.
