I received my Model 17-4 today...
....and what a beauty! I ended up purchasing an excellent used one.
I am guessing it was made around 1980, the serial # is 83K5Xxx.
I just can't believe the excellent condition it is in, like a new gun.
I plan on shooting it later this week, it is solid and tight.
I also received my first steel target today. I am going to have a blast with this when I go up to North Carolina along with my Ruger 22/45s.

Beautiful. Shoot the hell out of it--assuming you can find ammo.

Nice revolver! You are going to really enjoy using that one. They are very accurate and fun to shoot. I use .22 Shorts at home so the neighbors don't complain. I'd be interested to hear what .22 LR ammo yours prefers.
I recently picked up a 17-4 and a 17-6. The 17-4 looks hardly used, the 17-6 was NIB even after 24 years. Here are some gratuitous photos for your viewing pleasure:
17-4 (1978)
17-6 (1989)

That's interesting, I did not know that the 22 revolvers will shoot shorts.

Shorts, Longs, and any Long Rifle ammo. I don't know if Longs are even made anymore, but CB Shorts definitely are.

That 17-6 without a full underlug may be on the scarce side. Not rare, but scarce. I don't have how many were made, but 17-6 was the intro of the full lug barrel and most of them were made with the full lug and 6".

Well, I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, but it sure looks nice with that 4" barrel.
I really like Model 17's. I might have to get one of the newer lugged versions with 10 shots.

There is little that is more fun than a Smith and Wesson .22 revolver.
