Smith and Wesson 500 Bear Survival Grip Replacement
I just got the Smith and Wesson 500 Bear Survival Gun and I am not a fan of the bright orange grip. I would like to get a nice wood grip but I'm not sure what kind of grip will fit on the gun. I have been told that it has an X-frame but I can't find any grips that are for an X-frame. I have also been told that a K-frame will fit but does it have a square butt or round butt. Thanks

you're probably gonna want to stay with rubber for that beast. SW sells them at their website.

I know the rubber would be a lot more comfortable but this isn't a gun I shoot all the time. If I have to shoot this gun its because I'm being attacked by a bear and the last thing I'm worried about how comfortable the grip is. I saw them on the SW website but do you know what kind of frame this gun has?

Or just a simple black rubber grip would be fine but I'm not sure what kind of frame it has.

Do you still have the grip?
I know this is an old thread but, if you still have the yellow grip and would be willing to sell it, I'd like to buy it.

Any round butt K frame grip will fit just fine. I'd suggest hanging onto the orange rubber for collector/originality-value purposes, getting a set of black rubber 500 grips from S&W for when you do want to shoot it, and consider one of the nice wooden offerings from Ahrends for cosmetic purposes. Some of the round-to-square configurations are really nice, and lots of beautiful choices of wood.
You can certainly shoot the gun with wooden grips. But it's gonna hurt if you use factory or full-bore loadings. Wear a well padded glove if you decide to try it.

You can shoot with wooden grips without issue. Getting comfort from a grip means getting one that fits and fills your hand properly (regardless of material). The first thing you will notice over rubber grips is improved control.
