Need for a Governor
To set up my question, I should tell you that I have a number of handguns, some semi-autos (Sig and STIs) and a couple of S&W revolvers. Only the Sig P238 is a good carry gun, and the rest I consider to be mainly target guns.
With that set up in mind, do I really have any practical use for a Governor? I have handled several, and even shot one. I enjoyed the shooting, but it is clearly not a target gun. In practical terms, it really isn't a good carry gun, but might work well in the car console. Do some of you have a Governor? If so, did you get it because you just wanted it, or do you find practical use for it?

It's a "fun" gun to own, since you can do many things with it. I honestly bought it just for kicks, with the hope that it would become a supplemental HD gun.
It is currently my "nightstand" gun, and my wife loves it. That carries a lot of weight....something she feels comfy with in a pinch.

Its in excellent back packing gun. You have many options with the governor. Also a great home defense gun. Most fun I've had with a handgun in years.

I have never been a fan of a handgun or shotgun that shoots .410 shotgun shells. I have never been a fan of pistol calibers in a revolver that require moon clips. I would much rather have an accurate gun that is chambered for .45 Colt only.

It's as accurate as any average .45 colt or .45 acp and as powerful as any .410 shotgun. It's fun to shoot, in any caliber, makes a great HD gun using 000 buck, and is light enough to carry. It is a little large for everyday carry, but if you can handle a 1911, you can handle this.
Why wouldn't anyone like it?
Do a search on this forum. There are LOTS of threads on it. It does seem that later threads show that many are coming around to realizing it's a great gun.
Usually the naysayers are the ones that have never even held one, so take their opinions for what they're worth.
I have many guns, and I really don't NEED 99.9% of them. Need isn't the reason that most people buy guns, once they've gotten their first. If you want one, and can afford it, get it. You'll like it.

Buck, bird or other HD disc and slug-type loads wont be accurate beyond 20-25 feet with such a short barrel. However, for HD or close encounters with snakes and vermin, you wont be farther than that.
Did I NEED it? Heck no.
Love it, and trust it for one of several HDs.

Got one. Carry it most days. Lighter than a steel 1911. Funner than my Glock 45.
Accurate enough for me. I also carry a NAA pug 22 mag, which some people may say is not good for defense but none of them will a accept my offer to shoot them with it to see.

I'm a retired cop and 20 year firearms instructor. I bought one after someone brought one to a concealed carry class I was teaching and I saw what it did to the target at close range. I love the thing and carry it on my farm regularly. I would never carry it for self defense in public with .410's because of the spread, which isn't as bad as you'd think. But for a home defense gun with no kids or others in adjacent rooms to worry about its one hell of a weapon. I just wish S&W would have had the forethought to put a rail on it for a light/laser. Btw, a buddy of mine worked a shooting where a bad guy took several shots to the head from a Taurus Judge with 000buck. He said the commercial with the watermelons getting shot with one is pretty close...nasty.

PLEASE -- Let the citizens of the one-party Socialist State of MARYLAND offer up our liberal Governor O'Malley, as well...!
We cannot even say the word "gun"; or mention any number over "10" in the same sentence as the word "magazine"...!

And I'm a retired warlord from Somalia. You could empty the revolver of 000 buck from a Judge/Governor and never equal the mess you can make with a single round from a 12ga. And anybody with a lick of experience in these matters knows that.
The Judge/Governor is a great money sink for the inexperienced. IMO, nobody "needs" one. I can understand "wanting" one though as we all have useless toys.

Wake up, many guns are just amusing and pretty much useless toys. We like them anyway.

Although I don't own one, I imagine this type of handgun could fulfill a need for a farmer, rancher, or outdoorsman. It sure would be a lot more handy to transport in the field than a full sized shotgun...but then who am I to argue with a retired Somali warlord off his meds?
