Hello and Welcome to the Forum
Sadly I can't give you a definitive date. Your serial# prefix doesn't appear in the reference material that most of us use which is the Standard Catalog of S&W, 3rd Edition. A factory historical letter, or if someone can chime in with a similar serial# prefix that has had their's lettered may be your only avenue. Did you get the original box with the revolver?

Default No box !

Unfortunately I did not get the box with the gun. If this helps, it is a 686-6 and has the key safety lock. I got the serial number behind the crane right above the 686-6. I know the best place to look is under the grips and I did not remove them as of yet.

My 686+ is a CDC from early 99'
Yours is probably one of the first IL models.
On pg. 271 of the Standard Catalog of S&W, 3rd Edition, it mentions the 686-6 as being a 2001 model/variant with the internal hammer and lock.

Default Thanks for the info

I have been trying to call S&M customer service for this information. Once I'm on hold for 15 minutes I give up. So, I'll keep trying them and I hope someone out there has a similar serial # and they might be able to help.
