Default Scarcity of 14-5s

After researching for some time, I decided that the 14-5, preferably an early model was what I wanted for a cast bullet target pistol. 6 months of searching has resulted in 2 for sale. One was priced way out of line (well over $1K) and the second sold within minutes, hours after I saw it.

Is there any particular reason for this? Low production, high collector value, etc.?

Just wondering as I am patient but 6 months and only seeing 2 for sale has me wondering......
Best Regards, Bill.

They didn't make many of them and those got snapped up by the PPC shooters at the time.

Here's my 14-5 I purchased a few years ago. It's from the first run of 2000 in early 1991. Definitely one of my favorite shooters. I think you nailed the reasons why they are hard to find. Just keep looking and you'll find one.

Here it is with matching 17-6 and 16-4. The 14-5 was the hardest to find of all three.

I was walking around the Orlando show a few years back and saw a guy toting this one a few times. I asked to see it and then said "No thanks, L frames are not my thing." He says "Its a model 14" and then named his price, paid him and then he says "How about some ammo at $5 a box?" Out to the car we go and he has a case of Federal ball. Only had enough cash left for 7 boxes (I had earlier bought a 29). It came with the original FG stocks, but those belong on a Model 19, where they are. The guns are out there, the trick is crossing paths with them at an "opportune moment." Joe

Default They are out there, but scarce

I've only seen a couple over the years, frankly I prefer the M14-6's due to the newer style rear sight assembly. Early -6's can be had with square butt grip frames if that is important to you, and of course forged parts are found on most/all the -6's as well. If you expand your search to the -6 variation you might find more out there.

Individual pics of these in this thread:
